Question about Apple iPod classic MP3 Player
How long have you had this problem for, was there any changes that you made with it? Any new programs? Accessories? A change of the case?

This means either your hard drive or operating system has failed, you could try resetting in iTunes (you will lose any music off of there but it sounds like it's lost anyways). If restoring to factory default still gives you sad face, your drive is likely bad and would need to be replaced.
