Dell inspiron 600m is extraordinarily slow

My mother-in-law's dell inspiron 600m is extraordinarily slow in doing almost anything. for instance creating a new folder takes about 30 seconds. the disk isn't that full. there aren't a lot of programs running. what could cause such slowness?

I reformatted the HD, reinstalled the OS and have anti virus. this 600M is not a good machine. It used to get really hot. I took it a part removed a huge dust ball in the heat pipe and it is still slow.

Worn out enter key of a Dell Inspiron 600m laptop

Time to bring it into a computer shop and have them replace the keyboard for you. It should be relatively inexpensive because it's not that difficult for them to do. Just get an estimate on labor for 30 minutes, and how much the keyboard will cost.

Microphone on Dell Inspiron 600M PC Notebook not working

If your Inspiron 600m had a mic that you used in the past and it is no longer working, please try to press the mute/volume down/up buttons near where the whole of the mic is located.
If, after trying the above, 1 or all 3 buttons do not work, the problem is with the board that is right under the power button (small 2-3 inch length circuit board). It is not making full contact on its connector below. If you put pressure on it (just above the power button) it will all respond. I had the same problem on another 600m laptop.

Mother board on 600m dell laptop

Disclaimer: you should have a tech do it.
That being said, here is a link that shows you how to R/R the system board. One thing to remember when replacing laptop system boards, Keep the screws together and seperate. IE: case screws together, Motherboard screws together and so on.
You may have to copy and paste this link into your browser.
http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/ins600m/en/index.htm#online_documentation

Click and downlaod the service manual. un-zip it to your c: drive. It will un-zip to a c:\dell\dosc\sm folder. Then drill down to the sm folder. In there you will see a Internet Explorer icon labeled "sysboard". click on that and the instructions will be there.
Take your time , Good luck,
Joe

Try the repair service locator at the home page of Fixya. It will list any of our experts that are available or have shops in your area. I will recommend that you stay away from Bestbuy, they're expensive, and always trying ro sell you more.
