My computer says unable to validate windows

I just got this laptop from a friend, just want to use it to check email while on the road. It said today VIRUS ALERT! and then it says Unable to validate windows authenticity. Does this mean she had a "boot leg" copy of windows on this laptop?

Why deos it say my email is not valid

You get many emails, especially if you run a business on the web. All of these emails are important because they are from your customers, friends or family. The ones from customers are even more important since they are usually orders for your products or questions about your business. Validate the email address before processing the order to make sure you can reach your customer.

Validate the email address by sending an email to the person who provided the email to you. If it bounces back to you, the email is not valid. Reach your customer through other contact information. Select the email address you want to validate at online validation site such as Broadband-help. Type in the email address or copy and paste it in the box on the page. Enter the validation code found on the page and click "Submit." Check results for the email address you entered in the "Results" box. You'll see a green arrow and the words "Valid email" for any valid email address. See the result for a non valid email as a red "X" in the results box. It will also say the words "Not valid email." Choose to validate a free email address at Ranks to find out if a free email address is valid. Enter the email address in the box and click on "Check." View results on the next page.

The platform is failing WGA. This KB has information about WGA and potentially resolving the issue

If the laptop has a valid key associated with it, it's usually on a sticker on the hardware somewhere.
If there isn't a valid license associated, then the only legal way to get rid of the message is to buy a valid license.

Not much you can do without either a restore cd or a windows cd.
If you have a valid COA on the bottom of your laptop with a valid windows serial, then maybe a friend can lend you a windows disc or even look for a copy of the same OS via a torrent site. If you use your own Windows key that has been paid for, then the OS should register ok.
Most new laptops/pc's dont come with a restore disc or a windows disc, but rely on you making your own when first using the computer. Most people dont

Unable to format due to absence of driver cd

Well you don't need a Driver CD to get the drivers. First off, XP should detect the majority of your stuff, but to be on the safe side, here's all the drivers for your PC:

If you were talking about your Recovery CD (which contains Windows) you can always borrow a friend who has the same version of windows as you, and use your valid serial number to reinstall windows.
