Question about Whirlpool LER4634J Electric Dryer
After you push the start button a couple times it won't even
hum. then there is a burnt smell and the drum never turn. is this the motor
It could be the motor. And if you are smelling a burnt smell it most likely is. The cheapest way to fix this is to try and find a refurbished motor. But to tell you the truth you may just want to get a whole new machine as it will cost just a little more then a motor costs. If you have a warranty on your dryer then you're in luck, but if not check first for the price of a refurbished motor then price out a new dryer. Hope that helps and good luck.

f you hear the motor humming and not starting at all it most likely has a severe friction problem with the drum or motor. It could possibly have some type of garment jamming the blower wheel preventing the motor from starting too.
Open the dryer door and manually rotate the dryer drum counter clockwise (CCW). It should take very little effort to rotate the drum. If it's hard to rotate that could explain why the motor hums instead of starting up. If it turns freely, shut the door and see if will start. If it still hums and not start it may have bad motor or a low voltage supply to the motor.
