Your battery may have gone bad. It may have enough juice to turn on the lights but not enough to run the motor. Try connecting the battery directly to the motor terminals. If it runs ok them you may have a bad speed controller.
Have a look at the user manual wiring diagram on the Currie web site. The power switch is in the battery + line. if the wires broke off then you should be able to see from where if you look closely at the switch connectors.
Most brake levers have an adjustment barrel. You loosen the lock nut, unscrew the cable adjusting barrel a few turns to take up cable slack & adjust the brake lever freeplay then tighten the lock nut.
