You take the cable that you had hardwired to your pc and put that ethernet cable in the routers lan port.. if you want to set up wep keys then you need to access the router to do that using its ip address once you have connect to it wirelessly jsut remember to use the same key on every device that connects to it or they will not be able to use the router

My sister is visiting and when we tried to put her laptop on my internet hookup the message was displayed stating that my internet connection through comcast was unsecured. What do I do to correct this...

its letting you know that your wireless network is open and not secured. she just needs to acknowledge it and she will be able to browse the internet but it is not secured.
if you want to secure your wireless network you will need to configure it by opening internet explorer
browse to http://192.168.1.1
the default login is blank and the password is admin
click on wireless
click on wireless security and choose wpa personal
enter a passphase which you will use to join your wireless network securely on any wireless device.
your sister will need to rejoin the network once you do this and you will need to rejoin any other wireless device to join your secured wireless network.

Just moved to Canada and hooked my desk top up. i have internet through cable not phone line. i have internet with a cable from linksys to desk top but i have no wireless to laptops. i think i need to...

You need to configure the Linksys with the wireless settings, ie. the SSID and encryption. then you need to configure the wireless card in laptop with these router's wireless settings so it can connect with the wireless router.
Open a browser on your computer and type in the Linksys configuration URL.
http://192.168.1.1
The default login = admin
The default PW = admin
then go to the wireless section and configure the SSID and encryption. I suggest you use WPA or WPA2 these are much stronger encryption than the older WEP encrtption.

To secure your wireless network from unauthorized access, please click on this link and follow my instructions :-

The Linksys support page for this router is here. You can download the manual and find helpful information in the FAQ section. It's pretty simple to connect and set up your router, so you should have it going in a flash.

Desk top/ethernet to linksys router not recognizing.

First connect that desktop to linksys with ethernet cable.
then set ip property to network adapter .
Set ip address ,subnet mask and gateway ip to ip property.
Set ip address as the ip of network like if router ip is 192.168.1.1 so set ip like 192.168.1.15
set subnet mask as same as your other computer.
Set default gatway ip as your router ip.
Then you can connect internet.
Let me know if you need more assistance.

Thanks.

Router hookup

Router setup
If you are using the cd that comes with the router, that is the problem. You do not have to use the cd. Go to the control panel and un-install the program that the cd installed. then:
Shutdown your PC. Unplug the power from the router and the cable modem.
Wait 30 sec. then plug in the power to the cable modem, wait 30 sec. then plug the power to the router. Wait till you have "Internet" light then restart your PC. The PC should pick up an IP address and you should be able to get on-line. This is if you have a cable service provider. If you have DSL, the router needs to be configured with PPOe.

Customize the Wireless Settings of the Router
Having default wireless settings on the Linksys router may cause conflict with other Linksys routers within your network range. Linksys suggests changing the SSID (network name) and the Wireless Channel of your router. Also, if it is possible, enable the Wireless Security of your router.
To change the router’s SSID or the wireless network’s name, click here.
To change the router’s channel, click here.
To enable the wireless security on the router, click here.

If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.
Thanks, Joe

I need to know how to hook up my LInksys wireless-G broadband router. What wires hook where?

Connect a network cable (cat5e cable) from the WAN/Internet port to your cable modem. Then connect a network cable from any port on the router to the computer's network port.
If you have DSL, the router needs to be configured with PPOe
