Question about HP Pavilion dv6000t Notebook

No audio device installed - multi-layered issues

Hp dv6000 notebook
vista OS
__________________________________________________________

Many layers to this:

1. problem originally appeared after I uninstalled some programs from the start menu
2. spent almost 2 hrs online with HP - who could not solve it and said to reformat hard drive and start over -- NOT!
3. tried ALL the solutions I found on the forums - no go
4. found fixya -- cleverer 2 said I had trojan and/or virus - per instructions I downloaded spybot and ad aware - did 2 clean ups and indeed did have trojans .. problem not fixed, however
5. tried to install new hardware - conextant audio device - crashed computer 3X (this is the correct audio device, I believe)
6. flash also quit working - fixya said to download as administrator - did and it works
7. CLUE: after first download of flash - audio device appeared, but did not work --
8. CLUE #2 - each time I restart I have to re-install flash
9. Problem is NOT just driver - when you try to install is says "no media device"

Is this a registry problem? Should I download a registry clean up program? I have downloaded 2 free ones and done clean up - seemed to make things worse, actually ...

Could the actual hardware (sound card, whatever) be damaged?

If so, what is the fix?

There are TONS of people on the forums, all computer types, with this same problem -- most of them also have vista os in the equation ...

Looking for a happy solution. And so far, you guys and your network are THE most knowledgeable....

Seriously hope you can help .. I'll tell the world about you ..
Actually I already put you in my last newsletter ... (but it's not the world, yet)

You have windows system files missing. Short of transfering your inportant files to a flash drive or two, and re-installing a fresh copy of vista, try this:

This solution is for XP, but vista is similar.

Insert your vista installation disk into your drive and re-boot. From the "install windows" box, select "repair your computer." From the "system recovery options" box, select "command prompt."

Once at the command prompt (blinking >) cursor, type the following, where Dis your cd/dvd drive letter. The "C" drive is usually where the operating system is installed.

1...at the command prompt C:\Documents and Settings\{your user name}>[blinking cursor "_"]

type this:

copy d:\i386 c:\i386

It will take a few minutes to load. After it finishes copying, type "exit" to end your session.

Then reboot your computer and that should do it.

Are there any further questions regarding this matter? If not, enjow :-)

You can also run System File Checker. start>run>type in "cmd">then type in the following at the command prompt: sfc/scannow

The computer may ask you to insert your installation cd into your cd/dvd drive.

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

To my knowledge, there were several versions of this laptop. Verify that the sound device is indeed a Conexant. There are other versions of the same model that uses Intel Corporation 82801H (ICH8 Family) HD Audio Controller (rev 03).

Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa.

    You can go to
the drivers can be found at

    http://welcome.hp.com/country/us/en/supp...

if you bought in the USA

to find your exact product name look on the bottom of the laptop
close to where the windows "key" sticker is and you should see a
    sticker that HP put there.
    should say:

    product: hp pavilion dv2000

    s/n: ###########

    p/n: ###########

    service tag dv2120us

From there you can download all the drivers for you machine

It seems you already tried running a lot of security software on this computer and still have the same problem, but if I'm correct you haven't run a system restore yet on the time and date that everything was working fine on that computer, so if you haven't tried that yet better do a system restore first and hopefully that will fix the problem...

Dv6707us no audio output device is installed

WOW no OS stated, w2000,xp,vista,w7,w8 or w10 wow. to the max.
no? toss coin W7 sp3, all updates good.

i bet BIOS is fine, after all it worked before, SURE DID!
so what is it,
well my guesses,,
1: system is virus infected, do a full HP media reinstall. end. issues.
2: if device manager is missing? all your key hardware!!!
that means windows lacks the base line drivers for you your LT.
tell me someone installed non HP,com OS from say MS direct.
there are only 2 sources of OS
HP
and
MS.

ok went to Hp.com for you
shows its VISTA, this is some old LT. circa 2007
(10 years old) but has very very old buggy vista.
so if not vista, loaded from HP
then its the wrong OS, installed. (is it wrong?)

next time say what OS is there, so helpers can even begin to help.

now how to load fresh Vista on this box LT.
there are 2 ways, (there is a 3rd I will not cover)
1: put in the HP recovery CD and load it. bingo fixed.
2: install windows vista someway, (missing all your unique chip drivers. then
on the below web site you would install all drives manually
taking about a days labor.
they must be installed in the correct order and correct version
and precedence.
on newer LT , HP as a softpaq, loader, that loads them all in the correct order and all that. but on this old laptop , no SOFTPAQ
autoloader is offered, best i can tell.
on mine 2

only this works on your LT.
