Question about Sirius Satellite Radio Sirius SIR-ALP1 Satellite Radio Receiver

1 Answer

No talk radio

I just had my tuner professionally installed Saturday and activated the service for the first time Sunday and all the music channels (up to 99 and 116) come in, but none of the talk radio channels 101+. Sirius support has no clue and blames the equipment. Anyone know what causes this?

Re: No talk radio

After the serial number of the unit is given to the support tech to enable service, it is your subscription that aloows to get those stations. It could be the unit as they said.

Turn the radio on an locate the Radio ID
For XM Radios

Your Radio ID can be displayed by tuning your radio to channel 0. (That's one channel down from the XM Preview.) Make sure to check your ID code carefully. Please note that the following letters are not used: I,O, S, and F.

Call the activation hotline to activate your service

No sirius id, no presets, all cleared... activation didn't help

You need to call sirius @ 1-888-GET-SIRIUS (438-7474) and they will remotly reset the radio for you. This has happened to me twice and this is the only way i have found to fix it.

My raodio stoped working how can i see if my service has ran out

You can call toll free 1-800-XM Radio (1-800-967-2346) and ask them the status of your current membership. You will have to tell them the "model number" of your XM Radio, plus the "Radio ID Number" which should be stamped on the bottom of your radio, or can be found on radio channel 0 (Zero). If your membership is expired or cancelled, then it is up to you to re-subscribe.

If you are a valid subscriber, then tune the radio to Channel One, and see if you can get talking and/or music on that channel. If you do NOT receive Channel One, then you have an internal problem with your radio, not your subscribership.

Turn the radio off, wait 5 seconds, then turn on the radio. Watch the screen carefully... It should say, XM Satellite Radio, then the Channel Number, then "Loading", and then you should get sound or music. If you get "NO SIGNAL", then you have an Antenna or internal circuitry problem. Find someone who also has an XM Radio, test your radio by plugging in your Radio into their Antenna, and see if it makes a difference. If still "NO SIGNAL", then you are screwed.

Decide if you want to replace the radio with a new one, or go without.

Good Luck...

The radio on my 2010 Subaru WRX has A Sat button on the radio. How do I get an XM Tuner to activate this button?

Many/most of the original factory radios with the 'XM' button already have the tuner in them. While outside (not inside a garage or under trees) Press the "XM" button then see if you can get channel 1, or channel 247, or channel 0. Channel 1 is free previews, channel 247 is free weather, and Channel 0 is the serial number of the radio. IF you have these 3 channels then all you have to do is call 1-800-XM-RADIO with the serial number from channel zero. Leave the radio on channel 1 for 30 minutes after calling, and you should then be activated. Let me know if you have more questions.

Can not change channels by pushing channel numbers

Sounds like you don't have the tuner wired properly, IF you have a stand-alone tuner, then you need one wire to a continuous 12VDC for memory, the other 12VDC that's hot in accessory position, and then the ground. IF you hook the two 12volt wires together and they're only on when the car's on, then you will lose your memory of what channel it's on. Also, when you turn the radio off, turn it off with the BUTTON - not just by turning off the car. Give it a try using the radio's POWER BUTTON for on and off, NOT just the ignition, then it will remember the channel most of the time. Okay?

Sirius satellite radio

Make sure the antenna has a good line of sight. Sirus works best when pointed in an Easterly direction. By default you should get channel 184 if there is no service activated on the radio.

All Sirius radios can be used for service only in the United States and Canada.

If you feel that the line of sight is ok and there are no obstructions from pointing your antenna either out of a window, on top of the car, or outside if it is used in a house, then try a different antenna. If you are using the smaller guage antenna wire, the connections can break inside during installation in a car from time to time.

If the radio is factory installed contact sirius at 1-888-539-7474 to see if they can see the radio on their end.

Sirius Radio Invalid Channel message

1) Do you have a Sirius account?

2) Have you called Sirius and given the serial number of that receiver?

Those are the first two things you have to do to get a Sirius receiver working. (The original owner could have changed his account to use his new receiver, if he has one.) Go to - the "activate" part - for details.

&R=11812445&C=17577363&K=NBy0rr?h=2mv3s7&r=11812445 Your SIRIUS radio contains an FM transmitter that allows it to operate wirelessly through your car FM radio. We have determined that the output of this transmitter exceeds the limits established by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). As a result, the unit may interfere with the performance of radios operating in areas adjacent to your radio. There are no health or safety concerns associated with this issue.
  • If you listen to your SIRIUS radio wirelessly through your vehicle's FM radio, then please review the solutions listed below and select the one that works best for you. SIRIUS will provide you the best solution at no cost.
  • If you use your SIRIUS radio only when docked in a boombox, or directly connected to your car radio or home stereo using audio cables or a cassette tape adapter, then no interference can occur and no further action is required, provided you have turned off your FM transmitter. To turn off the FM transmitter, first press the MENU button. Use the channel up/down buttons to highlight “FM Transmitter” and push the SELECT button. Use the channel up/down buttons to highlight the "FM On/Off" menu item and then press the SELECT button. Use the up/down buttons to highlight "FM Off" and press the SELECT button. To exit the "FM On/Off" menu, press the MENU button. Use the same procedure to turn off the FM transmitter if you use Solution 1 or Solution 2 below..
Solution 1 - Direct Wired Audio Connection: If your vehicle radio has a “LINE IN” or “AUX IN” jack, you can use a stereo cable to connect directly to your SIRIUS radio. This solution is the easiest to install and provides the best audio performance. Many newer vehicles provide the required audio input jack. It will normally be found on or near the front faceplate of your vehicle’s radio.

Solution 2 - Cassette Tape Adapter
: If your vehicle has a cassette tape player, you can use a cassette adapter that allows you to play your SIRIUS radio through the cassette portion of your vehicle radio. The adapter slips into your vehicle radio as easily as a cassette tape and provides better performance than a wireless connection. fcc_a_2.jpg

Solution 3 - FM Extender Cable Kit: An FM extender cable will provide a special transmitter antenna that allows you to obtain the best audio performance through your vehicle’s FM radio. This solution is easy to self-install, but does require that an easy-to-hide wire be run in your vehicle so the transmitter antenna can be placed in close proximity to your vehicle’s radio antenna. Using this FM Extender Cable Kit, you will continue to use your SIRIUS radio exactly the same way as you do currently. fcc_a_3.jpg

Solution 4 - FM Direct Adapter with Professional Installation: An FM Direct Adapter provides a wired connection between your SIRIUS radio and your vehicle’s radio. You will continue to listen to your SIRIUS radio through the FM tuner of your car radio, but the FM Direct Adapter eliminates the outside static and interference you sometimes experience when using a wireless FM connection. This solution usually requires professional installation. We will provide a certificate redeemable for installation at an installation center in your area.
Please go to and select the solution that works best for you. If you have any questions, please call 1-(877) 635-5130. Detailed instructions will be included with your solution.
You will improve the performance of your SIRIUS radio and reduce the potential for interfering with adjacent radios if you properly tune your FM transmitter. Please see the FM Transmitter Set-Up Tips below for more information.
We are sorry for this inconvenience. We are confident these solutions will allow you to continue to enjoy the great music, news, sports and entertainment that only SIRIUS Satellite Radio can offer with no impact on your radio’s performance.

FM Transmitter Set-Up Tips

To tune your FM transmitter turn off your SIRIUS radio and tune through the FM channels on your vehicle’s radio to locate an FM channel (except 87.7/87.9) that is not broadcasting in your area. If you use an FM channel that is being used by a local broadcaster, it will interfere with the performance of your SIRIUS radio. Once you have located an FM channel that is not being used for broadcasting in your area, save it as a preset on your vehicle radio. This will become your SIRIUS preset. If you’re not sure which FM channels are not being used in your home or travel cities, you can go to and search for an FM channel based on zip code.
Turn on your SIRIUS radio. In the SETTINGS or MENU on your SIRIUS radio, locate the “FM Frequency” adjustments. Set the channel number on your SIRIUS radio to match the SIRIUS preset on your vehicle radio. Refer to your user guide for detailed instructions on how to do this. The FM transmitter in your SIRIUS radio is automatically set to FM channel 88.1. This may not be the best channel in your area.
