The hammer on the typewritter that is suppose to hit the letter onto the paper will not move. Everything else seems to be working except for the hammer thing. I've tried turning it off and back on and tried to reset it but nothing seems to work. Please help. Thank you...

Hammer sticking and typing incorrect letters (and or skipping letters): 1) make sure daisy wheel installed correctly. 2) hold down CODE key & Q (RESET) to reset wheel...if still not corrected 3) WD40 the hammer at the base & joints where moving parts are, keep typing until oil seeps in (this last one fixed it for me)
Typing light and inconsistant-top part of letter okay but bottom too light or not there: to left of hammer (at base) are 2 screws, I losened them and adjusted hammer to different forward and backward spots..finally found the ideal location where full letter printed and had the correct force it needed to print correctly.
first of all check out replacing the ribbon cartridge.if the cartridge is got torn or over stretched.so replace the ribbon .
There is a solenoid down to the left of the horseshoe shaped printwheel mount. If it is gummed up or the nylon hammer plate is broken or missing the hammer will not strike the printwheel and you will not get print out or broken letters on print. Check the solenoid with a thin screwdriver by pulling and pushing the plate and rod in and out as if you were trying to make the solenoid push the hammer toward the type wheel. If the hammer moves when you bush the solenoid then it may be gummed up or not getting electrical impulse. If it moves but the hammer doesn't move then the cushion at the tip of the solenoid is missing and the gap is to great for the solenoid to act upon the hammer. This will help. Thanks please keep updated.please do rate the
solution positively .thank you for using fixya
the mark you are seeing is the print hammer hitting the paper. remove the ribbon. corr. tape & print wheel. turn on the typewriter. close cover let it home it's self. open cover put in print wheel. close cover let it nome. put in ribbon close cover. try typing if marks are still ther. you will need a new print wheel. if working then put in corr. tape or if you are better at spelling then me you will not need it
do you see any impression of letters on the paper when you type? if you do the ribbon not lifting or not driving. If you do not see an impression the print hammer is not firing. try to lub it with wd40 or light Wait oil. some brother typ's have a rubber bumper under the print hammer that deteriorate & need to be replaced
