Why does my Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex, 1.5 TB, external hard drive USB 2.0 make a clicking sound and will not connect to my Satellite receiver?

Does the drive work with a computer? This is an important test to determine if the drive is bad, or if it is an interface problem. Check the satellite receiver instructions for using external USB devices. Many times, these types of devices do not have interfaces with drivers for external hard drives.

Goflex home. How do I restore my original Ip Address

That is the user guide - if you can log into the device, then you can go into the settings and change the IP. Best to do so from Windows, I can't do much from Mac.

Here is the link to the pdf for your Go flex.

This is an excerpt from the file concerning NOT using the pogoplug...

Accessing GoFlex Net Without Using the Pogoplug Service (Windows)
You can access the drives connected to GoFlex Net without using the Pogoplug Web
interface. Follow these steps to set up local network access.
1. On the Windows taskbar, click Start > Network or right-click My Network Places >
Explore.
An Explorer window opens showing all computers on your network.
2. Locate and then double-click the computer name associated with GoFlex Net.
NOTE: Your GoFlex Net name starts with the letters "FADS" followed by the last six
alphanumeric characters of its MAC address. This 12 digit address, preceded by "MAC:",
is printed on the label on the bottom of GoFlex Net.
You can now access each drive connected to GoFlex Net. Access is regulated by the file
sharing permissions you set using the Pogoplug service.

Hope this helps...

After adding my Go Flex Pro to my Mac the computer froze up and won't allow me to do anything. I can't get on anything. Was wondering what to do?????

Dear Vic, didyou try to reboot the Mac? Disconnect the drive and reboot. If that works tryto plug the drive again. If the Mac doesn't freeze try these next steps: There's a 3step solution for your problem: 1. Download this software from Seagate:http://www.seagate.com/ww/v/index.jsp?locale=en-US&name=goflex-mac-install-software&vgnextoid=77002a... 2. If this software cannot create alink or communicate with the device, turn off your Mac and if you have anavailable pc try with it. If the drive works at the PC, Then is a compatibilty issue
3. Seagate report some compatibility problemswith this drive. If it is under warranty, ask for reimburse and choose anexternal HDD that has firewire 400, if your Mac is a recent model (2010-2011)you can buy an external drive with 800 firewire. If have doubt about the firewire option, lookfor about this Mac button and then press more info button, there you will findthat information.

My mac does not recognize my seagate goflex drive anymore

Try the drive on another computer. If it is recognized there, you might be looking at a larger issue on your Mac. If it doesn't, the GoFlex's drive or boards may have failed.

The MAC address sticker on the bottom of my Toshiba Satellite A215 is so worn I can't read the MAC ID. Where can I get the MAC ID for this machine? (just purchased used) everything else works...

If you are running Windows...
Go to Start Run (or hit the Windows key and the letter "R" simultaneously on your keyboard) and type cmd. crasher35_14.jpg
Once in the command prompt, type "ipconfig /all" crasher35_15.jpg
It will give you a lot of information, but what you are looking for is the line labeled "Physical Address." crasher35_16.jpg

You may have more than one device listed depending on how many network devices you have installed (such as a wireless adapter, a virtual adapter, or a second network interface card). Look at the description to help determine which one it is you need.

Hi, I bought a Seagate GoFlex a couple of days ago and successfully backed up my Mac at home. However, when I went to use the GoFlex on my PC at university, the PC was not reading the goflex. Thanks.

Did you reformat the FreeAgent drive when you backed up the Mac? If you use Time Machine or other backup software for the Mac, you had to reformat the drive. If you want the PC to read the disc, it must be formatted in a FAT32 or NTFS file system. The Mac OS formats discs in the HFS+ (extended hard drive format) system.

Unfortunately, if you reformat the disc to a Windows compatible format, you will lose your current backup. The drive will be as a large media transfer disc but not for the backup images. This site, http://www.cs.ubc.ca/~pcarbo/macnexstar.html , has information on splitting the hard drive into two partitions, one HFS+ and one FAT32. Then you could have your backup on one part of the GoFlex and still transfer files from the Mac to the PC and vice versa.

I hope this helps.
