To repair missing or corrupted system file/s, boot up with the Windows installation CD then - Press R to repair when instructed. Press 1 or Enter to repair the C:\Windows folder. Then type chkdsk /r and then press Enter. The repair process will take quite a long time. http://www.fixya.com/support/r4482455-repair_windows_xp

Ordinal 522 could not found

You probably have the S.M.A.R.T. virus. Bring it to a PC shop that specializes in virus/malware removal for a set price. This virus infestation is serious trouble.

However if you feel you can fix it on your own. Check for viruses and malware. But be warned the S.M.A.R.T. virus is extremely difficult to completely remove and you'll need to restore all your icons as well.

Boot your computer into "safe mode with networking" by pressing F8 several times at startup until the boot screen comes up. Then select "safe mode with networking".

Once you're up and running: You can get good FREE anti-virus and anti-malware apps from here:

Tried the same thing and got the same result using the motion computing DVD/CD external reader/burner.

Has anyone found an answer to this problem of trying to switch to a larger hard drive on the 1600 with format/installing? The new hard drive was not able to read the recovery disk with OS on it.
Thanks.

Installing cd burner and have no cd

You shouldn't need a cd. If you are using XP or vista and hooked up to the internet windows will take care of the driver for you with all but the most obscure cd drives.
