Question about Oster 12-Bottle Wine Cellar - Black

Don't cool-no refund/satisfaction from Oster.

I bought a wine cooler as xmas gift on 12/24/07. It quit working and as requested I sent in the power cord to recieve a refund 9/9/08. Oster refuses to back up this company that built this unit under contract in their name. They will not answer any mail and have disconnected the phone number.?????? What next? I have the case number given by the canada company and copies of all receipts. This is the worst service I have ever received from any supposedly honest company.

Did not work at all. Company said to send in power cord for refund. Oster said they are no longer with company but would get back. Didn't say which year.

The Readout display worked before cutting the cord off. Just no fan or naturally no cooling.

  • anchor2 Jan 22, 2009

the problem is: No cooling/digital readout on face did light up and readable but no fan movement. Called company in Canada to get repair directions and was told to cut off the plug and mail in for refund. Tryed to contact Canadian number later to check on refund and found them no longer accepting calls/contact.I had the case number Canada co. assigned to original call. Contacted Oster and was told they were working on it. Tried to check on progress later and found Oster no longer would accept calls concerning the 12 bottle wine cooler. That was in Sept. I still have not been contacted by Oster.I am not impressed with the Oster folks standing behind their warrenties.

straight cord as far as I remember.. I didn't pull back off.

Hey, I have this problem as well, (unable to turn unit on) and would like to hear how to replace the power cord. I think I can just try it with a drop cord, but I was wondering what best way to connect wires with new cord and stuff like that. Thanks a lot! Hope I can get this unit working, as it seems throwing it away is my only other choice.

We bought 3 Oster Wine Cellars from Best Buy last summer. Not one of them cools at all and they all broke within a month. They are in two separaqte houses. I have called about 20 numbers with no success. Worst service i have ever seen. Even Best Buy didn't know how to contqct the Petters Consumer Brands. $almost $400 blown out the window. No refund, no service. Do not buy any of these products.

Ok if just straight cord with no pack on the end of cord that plugs in wall. You will need to go buy a orange drop cord that the same size diameter as the piece thats still attatched to the appliance. The piece that still attatched has 3 wires inside right?

NOTE-There still may be more than just the cord thats the problem, but if you still like to continue, the get the drop cord and black electrical tape and we can start with that.

Can you confirm that the cord that you cut off was just a straight cord, with or without transformer on the plug.

ok so you have cut the cord off before or after this conversation??

Ok it seems that there is a big problem with the power cords on the unit. Oster is telling people to cut the cord off the unit to send in to them. To me this is strange. But if you feel that you have waited long enough for them to tell you to cut the cord off then I can guide you through the process of putting another cord on. But I would need to know if it is just a straight cord, if it has a transformer on the plug or if it attaches to a power brick.

Also here is the artical about cutting the cord off.

Is the problem that it will not cool or will not work at all??

Ok, fist problem was unit quit working..if it quit cooling yet lights still worked inside and still had power readings on door is not power coord. If the unit stoped cooling is probably fuse and there are two of them in back of unit. One fuse clearly can be seen, the other is coated with a black shrink fit coating and is not well seen. This second fuse is the problem, you will need to replace it. I have same unit and this is what I had to do to get it cooling again.

I noticed that the glass fuse (the obvious one) had some black on the glass, and figured it was blown. replaced it (I think it was a 2.5A 200V fuse or something) with a 3A fuse because that is all I had laying around. required a minor amount of soldering. The unit works again :)

Power surge caused wine cooler to quit cooling

Power surges, spike and brown-outs are a nemesis to small refrigeration units. The capacitor for the compressor likey was affected and possibly the start components in general, especially if the unit was operating when the surge occured.

Wine cooler does not get cool - fans do not run the light and temperature display do work

if you hear the compressor tun on but not the fan, replace the fan and you may have to defrost the evaporator coils. if the compressor does not turn on either, it's the thermostat, the defrost timer, or a relay on the main board.

I have an Oster 12-bottle wine celler model OWO912H6H that was a Christmas gift in 2007. I just noticed the temperature is 98 degrees and I cannot get it to come down with the down button. I am very...

Hi, could be faulty thermostat, can you check compressor, is compressor running (working), listen to compressor for clicking sound, unplug it(switched off) for about 20 minutes, replug and let it run (work) for another 20 mins. see if temp. drops, what about temp. inside bottle (wine) cooler, is it 98 or colder, more info. could be valuable. check thermostat, check to see if compressor operates, if cooler temp. 98. remove you products, to another cooler, call mechanic.

Wine Cooler Does NOT get cool.

Here is the web site to locate your closest oster service center. They should be able to tell you what their charge will be up front so that you can compare that charge to the cost of a new one.

Now days, sadly, many of these items are too costly to repair so they go to the landfill..

Fan doesn't work on oster wine cellar

First question, do you have power to the unit and the cooling fan is not working? If this is the problem then sounds like one of the two fuses in back panel has burnt out.

No response from company on Oster 12 bottle wine refrigerator

just replace the 5amp fuse on circuit board with a 6.3amp. tada!
use an exacto knife to remove the shrink wrap on both ends of old fuse. heat ends with a soldering iron and pull away old fuse. solder new 20mm in line fuse holder from radio shack to both poles insert 6.3amp fuse and done. at least mine works again! $6.00 total cost!

I followed the instructions sent to me to obtain a refund on my non-working Oster 12 bottle wine refrigerator. My case was referred to as H03262008-1046. I mailed the a/c cord with the proof of purchase...

This message and (perhaps previous ones), is misaddressed - this is a repair forum and has only links to vendors that are not connected with this forum. No products are sold from here and, to my knowledge, no physical items accepted for repair. This is probably the only reply you will receive and it is only a courtesy-

Welcome to Fix ya,
You said, You have the same problem. Bought this wine cooler for Christmas from Best Buy. It died in August. I have contacted the company and been authorized to mail them the cord, original receipt and other information and get a full refund. Not sure that includes taxes or the cost of mailing back the cord, but I would rather fix it if I can.

Wendy,
They have many, many problems with this defective wine cooler as so they dropped this model!
You do not want it even if you can fix it!.
That model is an accident waiting to happen.
Take their refund and trash the unit!
This just saved your house and family!!!!!!!!!!!!
God Bless you.

Haier makes a great cooler that my customers all ask for!

Oster 12 bottle wine cooler

You must remove the fuse from the circuit board to check it. More than likely it's blown. A continuity test while in the circuit will always show the fuse as being good due to feedback through the circuitry.
