SOURCE: stihl ts 350 super cut saw died in the middle of cutting a brick

i am doing one right now (ts350). I had no spark. 2 problems there. I had to replace on/off switch do to dust making it malfunction. still no spark so I had to replace the Ign. module. got great spark now. It's not cheap either ($226.00 canadian) had to order it from a dealer. Now I have no fuel getting to the cylinder so I have more work ahead of me. I hope this helps if you only have a no spark problem. It's about a 6 on the skill level.

Eric:

Find the gas/air adjustment screws on the carb (next to the the throttle cam where the throttle cable attaches. Turn the screws in all the way... GENTLY... Those are needle valves, and too much torque on them will damage the needle valve seats. turn both of them out one and a quarter to one and a half turns. Start the saw, and adjust one or the other screw in or out until the saw runs properly. If there is a plastic stop installed on the screws, remove it first, and replace it after the saw is running properly. You have to be patient while tuning the carb as it may take a while. If you adjust too much and the saw refuses to start at all, start over with the 1-1/4 to 1-1/2 turns out on the screws.

Can you get a compression tester to check the compression? With the throttle wide open, the choke OFF, and the decompression valve (if so equipped) NOT engage, pull the engine over 3-5 times or until the gauge quits rising. You would like to see 90psi or more and if it is at 60 or less then it is most likely a scored piston and cylinder or bad rings. If the compression is good you need to check for spark. If it has good spark then it will most likely be fuel related. Often a complete tear down and rebuild of the carb is what is required.

if it's an older unit start with pulling the muffler and cleaning exhaust port and spark arrestor. while muffler is off sta.rt the unit and check for improvement. if no improvement clean & adjust carb. if improved with no muffler, test again with muffler installed. if unit goes back to running poor replace muffler.

The temperature is not that different. Is there a fair change in altitude between the dealer and where you live? The jet screws have 'D' heads to prevent owner tampering--how did you adjust them? You need to allow the engine to warm up before pulling the throttle. Make sure the fuel mix is fresh and mixed 50:1 with synthetic chain saw oil--be sure to shake the container thoroughly just before filling the tank each time to prevent oil starvation. It has to be the manufacturer's problem because it is under warranty. It sounds like the jet screws are set fairly lean. Ask the dealer if you can buy the special 'D' head screwdriver to make your own adjustments. Hope this helps!
