Re: I HAVE A IBM THINKPAD T 30
Thinkpad T30 are usually supplied with the following optical drives, CD ROM, CD R/W, and Combo DVD ROM with CD R/W.
You most likely have the Combo drive, therefore you can play DVD and CD disks plus burning music and data onto CD-R and CD+R discs.
You need CD burning software such as Roxio Easy CD Creator or Nero. Both these programs are excellent and easy to use.
a 6ya Technician can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.

Verify the disc media used. Try multiple original discs (not burned copies) which are clean and free of scratches. See Information about CD and DVD media. Note: Dark colored discs such as black may be more difficult to read.
Verify that the drive is seated properly in the ThinkPad system by reseating the drive. If another similar machine is available, then verify that the drive works in the other machine and that the other drive works in this machine. Notes:
The CD-ROM, CD-RW, or DVD drives cannot be removed in ThinkPad G40 and R50e systems.
Shut down, remove the power cord, and remove the battery from the ThinkPad system before removing the CD-ROM, CD-RW, or DVD drive.

I don't mean to disagree with my associate, but DVD players for R series (or T, A, etc) can be found for less than 20.00 US (Ebay is a good example)
For that matter, we've got at least a dozen at our shop which we sell for 25.00
Installation is very simple as well, just pop the old drive out, put the new drive in.
