Lots of fans are variable speed. Meaning they spin faster when the computer is hot and slow down when not. It's most likely spinning down. If the fan was bad the computer will either shutdown or generate an error during BIOS and halt the boot process.

if you have 2 memory sticks, (i.e. 2 ram sticks that are 2 gb each) try putting on in and start it.  if it does not work try this.
remove all power supplies (cord and battery).   hold down the power button for 30-60 sec.   after that plug the power in and try turning it on.

Turn it on and begin to tap F8 continuously until you enter a screen that gives you different boot options. It sounds as though your Master Boot File is corrupt.

If you come to a screen that allows you to choose "Last known good configuration" choose that one.

If it doesn't work, allow it to run start up repair.

One of the options you should see is to repair the Boot file, or MBR, or master boot record. It takes mere seconds and should reboot you.

If you didn't make Recovery Disks when you bought the machine, make them as soon as you get it back in order. They do the job much more easily!

WARNING: Before you start troubleshooting remember that you are dealing with electricity that can KILL. http://www.kitchentablecomputers.com/static.php - rules Only work inside the computer case when the power has been switched off and disconnected. Never open the power source. Some of the below steps recommend removing physical parts within the computer. While in the computer it is highly recommend that you be aware of ESD and its potential hazards Remove new hardware If any new HARDWARE has been recently added to the computer, remove that hardware to make sure it is not the cause of your issue. If after removing the new hardware your computer works it's likely the computer is either not compatible with the new hardware or a system setting needs to be changed to work with the new hardware device. Remove any disks or USB devices Remove any disks, CD's, DVD's that are in the computer and if any USB devices (Ipods, drives, phones, etc) are connected disconnect all of them as well. Reboot the computer and see if anything changes. Disconnect external devices. Remove everything from the back of the computer except the power cable. Turn on the computer and see if it beeps normally. If the computer has never beeped keep the monitor or display connected to see if any change occurs. Check all fans Make sure all fans are running in the computer. If a fan has failed (especially the heat sink fan for theCPU) your computer could be overheating or detecting the fan failure causing the computer not to boot. Check all cables Verify that all the cables are properly connected at that there are no loose cables by firmly pressing in each cable. All disk drives should have a data cable and power cable connected to them. Your power supply should have at least one cable going to the motherboard. Many motherboards may also have additional cables connected to them to supply power to the fans. Disconnect all expansion cards If the above recommendations still have not resolved the irregular POST, disconnect the riser board (if applicable) and each of theexpansion cards. If this resolves the issue or allows the computer to POST connect one card at a time until you determine what card is causing the issue. Disconnect all drives If you were unable to determine by the beep code what is failing or do not have a beep code disconnect theIDE, SATA ,SCSI or other data cables from the CD-ROM ,Hard Drive and Floppy Drive from the Motherboard. If this resolves your irregular POST or generates error messages re-connect each device until you determine what device or cable is causing the issue. In some situations it can also be a loose cable connection that causes the issue. Remove the RAM If you continue to to receive the same problem with all the above hardware removed, disconnect the RAM from the Motherboard and turn on the computer. If the computer has a different beep code or if your computer was not beeping and is now beeping turn off your computer and try the below suggestions. Making sure to turn off the computer each time you're adding and removing the memory and then turning the computer back on to see if the suggestion resolves the issue. Re-insert the memory into the same slot. If you have more than one stick of memory remove all but one stick of memory, try rotating through each stick. Try one stick of memory in each slot. If you're able to get the computer to boot with one or more of the sticks of memory it's likely you're dealing with some bad memory. Try to identify what stick of memory is bad and replace it. If you're able to get memory to work in one slot but not another slot. You're motherboard is defective you can either workaround the issue by running the memory in a different slot or replace the motherboard. Power cycle the computer In some situations a computer may have power related issues often caused by either the power supply or the motherboard. To help determine if this is the cause of your issue try turning the computer on, off, and back on as fast as possible, making sure the computer power light goes on and off each time. In some situations you may be able to temporarily get the computer to boot. This should only be used as a temporary workaround if you're able to get this to work. Often this is good for users who may have not done a backup and need to get the computer up one more time to copy files before starting to replace hardware. Disconnect and reconnect the CPU For users who are more comfortable working with the inside of their computer or who have built their computer one last recommendation before assuming hardware is bad is to reseat the CPU by removing it and putting it back into the computer. Bad motherboard, CPU, RAM, or power supply If after doing all of the above recommendations you continue to have the same issue unfortunately it is likely that you have badMotherboard, PSU, CPU, orRAM. The next step would be either to replace these components or have the computer serviced. If you plan on doing the repairs yourself or you are a repair shop it is suggested that you replace the Motherboard first, RAM, CPU, and then power supply in that order or try swappable parts from other computers. The error code refers to a faulty or failed hard drive. You may try the following steps and check whether you can resolve the issue.
First you may try boot in safe mode and check what happens.
Step 1: To boot to Safe mode you can follow the below given steps:
1. Remove all floppy disks, CDs, and DVDs from your computer, and then restart your computer.
Click the Start button, click the arrow next to the Lock button, and then click Restart.
2. Do one of the following:
a. If your computer has a single operating system installed, press and hold the F8 key as your computer restarts. You need to press F8 before the Windows logo appears. If the Windows logo appears, you will need to try again by waiting until the Windows logon prompt appears, and then shutting down and restarting your computer.
b. If your computer has more than one operating system, use the arrow keys to highlight the operating system you want to start in Safe mode, and then press F8.

If you are able to boot in Safe mode, then try a Clean boot.

Latitude D830 starts then shuts down quickly.


1. Make sure you are plugged into A/C.. Your battery could be running low.
2. Make sure there is nothing blocking the heat vents. This symptom is typical for overheating processors.

DELL INSPIRON M5030 MAKING NOISE DO NOT POWER ON WHAT SHOULD I DO


The fan on the processor is bad/dirty/sticking and heat is causing it not to start for protection of the system. Fix, replace, or clean the airways and fan and that may allow it to start. Ventilation is ultimately important to stay in good working order. Also, if there is a disk in the cd/dvd unit, it would try to boot from that first before using the hard drive. The noise could be that disk being spun and trying to read, which if finding no startup files would stop it from starting as well. Removal of that disk may allow it to start.

My Dell Inspiron M5030 shuts down suddenly...


Overheating When the CPU overheats then it will shut down (i.e. thermal overload) and won't boot up again until it has cooled down. If this is the problem is not fixed then the CPU will eventually fail.
A faulty fan causes the problem or the fan and heat sink assembly are clogged with dust.
Check the CPU fan to see if it spins freely, if not replace the fan.
If the fan and heat sink is clogged with dust the remove the dust and make sure the vents are clear and dust free. Use a small brush and can of compressed air to do this.

Dell inspiron m5030 keeps turning it self off


This problem is due to the following:
  • Your computer is overheating
  • Critical problems with your registry
  • Critical state of the system files
  • Hard disk data cable and power cord are loose
  • RAM is not properly connected

My Dell Inspiron m5030 won't turn on. It was


Switch ON the PC, boot the PC in 'Safe Mode' by continuously tapping F8 button after you switch On.

Let windows boot in Safe Mode and log in to windows.

Go to 'Start'--->Programs--->Accessories--->System Tools--->System Restore

Here you will have to check "Restore computer to an earlier time' and click Next
Now you will find one Month Calendar window with Dates below, go to the previous month by clicking the '<' sign in the upper left hand corner of the Month Calendar and select any date that you see in Bold.


The detail of that particular date should show "System Checkpoint" and time on the right hand side box. Select that date.

Now, Click on Next and System Restore will start and windows will take a reboot.

Computer won't boot


I assume, you have windows Vista, on your computer. If the startup and repair is not repairing the system. The operating system has crashed.
If you have the windows VISTA dvd , there is a possiblity to run startup and repair from the dvd to fix the problem.
But before you do the same, just run the diagnostics on your harddrive.
1. restart your computer
2. Tap on the F12 a couple of times when u see the DELL logo
3. Select HDD diagnostics

Try removing the ram and hard drive from the computer and then try booting the computer.
