Dell e5420 close lid power problem

I have windows7 loaded. Power settings are set to never turn anything off when the lid is closed. Sometimes when I close the lid, the laptop dies (doesn't shut down). When I open it back up, I have to press the power button and windows starts up again from scratch as if it crashed. It doesn't happen every time, but usually after a few days of running (I hibernate it overnight), it is more likely to happen.

just to be clear, its not a Windows power-settings thing. The laptop occassionally DIES (not shutdown, sleep, or hibernate).

SOURCE: Dell Inspiron 700m won't start

Hi,
It sounds like there is an issue with the system memory.

Remove both the power adapter and the battery. Turn the laptop over and locate the RAM (memory) cover and remove the holding screw.
Take out the system memory and clean the brass contacts, also clean the slots that the memory sits in.
Re-seat the memory making sure it clips into place nice and tight and replace the RAM cover.

Return power to the laptop and turn it on to see if that has helped.

If it still won't boot up then you may need to purchase new memory for the laptop.

Good luck.

SOURCE: Dell Inspiron 1300 - When I re-open the lid,Screen stays Black !

Your laptop either goes to hibernate or sleep mode when you close the lid. Then, when you open the lid up, the screen is still off because your pc already hanged/froze and could not wake up at all (usual problem in vista). Off course, hard shutdown would fix it. But actual fix is under power options on your control panel. Check your current scheme and edit it. There are options there that you can select to "do nothing when closing the lid"

Hope this helps

SOURCE: Dell XPS M1530 Ethernet Issue

This has been a known issue with XPS M1530. You can try changing the power options for once. Try flashing your BIOS to version A12. If it still doesn't work, you may have to opt for replacing your motherboard.

In Windows XP, Open Control Panel, Power Options, set to High Performance, set Sleep and Hibernate to no/never, set what to do when lid is closed. Use this procedure: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-xp/help/setup/configure-power-management It's a good idea to Shut down at Start Menu and unplug when not in use to prevent damage due to power surges, and IF the battery malfunctions, prevent a fire hazzard.

Closing lid on notebook, Dell Inspiron 17, with OS Vista, causes screen to blank

I am guessing that you must have an external monitor attached and are attempting to close the notebook and use only the external monitor? If so, there is a setting in "Power Options" to allow you to close the lid and not go to stand-by.

*Go to your Control Panel (Start, Control Panel)
*Select Performance and Maintenance, then Power Options - or - if you are in Classic View, select Power Options
*Select the Advanced Tab
*Under the Power buttons section, select "Do nothing" from the drop-down for "When I close the lid of my portable computer"

My dell C610 Screen does not come back on when i reopen the lid. I turn the computer on use it then close the lid for about a min then reopen it and the screen just stays off but the computer itself is...

Known issue. The windows default settings for power saving mode tell the computer to switch it off (sleep) when the lid is closed. The sleep mode doesn't turn completely the computer, just the visualization devices (mainly screen, also some other components not required for the computer).
What I would advise you to do after restarting the computer (press on the power button for a very long time, until you cannot hear it working), is to change the power settings.
go to control panel, choose "power options", then see if you have "choose what closing the lid does". If it's not there (not all laptops show this option), choose "change when the computer sleeps", then change " put the computer to sleep" to "never".

That should do it. if you have any questions feel free to ask me.

You can caust the system to NOT turn off--do nothing--through Control Panel/Power Options Properties/Advanced tab Power Buttons section. Select Do Nothing for When I close the lid....

The remore keybaord you choose may or may not have hotkey options for turning your laptop on and off.
