Question about Rowenta Power Duo Iron

Open Question

One of the two switches at the back of my Laurastar G1 iron has come out. Looking at it, it seems that the inner part of the switch has come lose from the iron housing. I feel I should be able to reattach it if I could open the iron. I can remove the two screws at the power cord, but can't work out what to press, squeeze, etc to separate the bottom from the top of the iron. Can anyone advise

SOURCE: Replace power cord

Sears has the tamper proof torx bit sets that you need to remove the screws. Unfortunately they are sold in sets only and are about $25.

The wire inside the cord is likely torn ant it connects and disconnects as it is moved back and forth. This happened to me too. I just need to find where to get a new cord.

SOURCE: Rowenta model dm 860 loose power cord

Most high end appliances (like Rowenta Irons) are made so repairs like that can be done. I haven't played with that model, but I did replace a cord on my Norelco. The torx screwdrivers you are looking for can be purchased, and are often found at either specialty electronic stores (not the average Radio Shack), automotive stores and quite readily online. They are also known as Torx Security bits or Torx Safety bits. Most appliances are made with those screws to prevent the average person from having a go at trying to fix it, but, if you feel comfortable enough with the electronics (even just to look for a loose connection), the bits are available and usually at a fairly decent price.

SOURCE: Rowenta Iron-Professional Luxe The power cord

I drilled out the nubs in the center of the screws. removed the screws, and took off the back plate. The problem is that the cord seems to be abraiding when it swivels, and eventually wears thru. It seems like a fire hazard and should be looked into by Rowena. Anyway, I cut out the damaged cord and reattached it. Problem fixed..

Its a Miele Rotary B890D model, when appliance is switched on the heater plate moves up and down (automatically)without the foot pedal being pressed, seems to be that the foot pedal is stuck in a pressed...

I am by no means an expert. I have an electronic background. I have been looking at my mother in laws iron and noticed a few things about it. Check the foot pedal switch. it is easy to acess. Lay machine on its back and remove the two screws and the cover. If you have a continuity test just make sure the switch changes states when you push it. Hope this helps
