SOURCE: I can't remove the grill above the fan so I can clean the blades

I have a Holmes cool-mist One-Touch Humidifier, and you can't reach the blades to clean them, and you can't take the console apart. I finally decided to use two spray bottles and clean and them rinse the Humidifer while holding the console upside down and over a sink. The one bottle you could fill with any mild cleaner plus a lot of water to dilute the cleaner. Maybe dishwashing liquid (not the dishwasher stuff), or a little bit of ammonia, or rubbing alcohol, or vinegar. Spray that on the blades while the machine is upside down, and a lot of sooty dirt drips out. Then rinse with another spray bottle full of plain water. Leave the console upside down on a towel to drip-dry. This is also how you can clean silk flowers that collect dust.

SOURCE: wondering if damage to Holmes HM500 humidifier is fixable...?

unfortunately running the unit for too long will permanently ruin the unit. there isn't really a way to fix it. i do deeply apologize for that. so unfortunately you might have to replace the unit.

WHEN I TURN ON THE HUMIDISTAT the water line going into the filter just starts gushing!is this the selenoid?

first its important to understand how humidifiers work ,

they work by using a pressurized source of water (prefer demineralized) that enters a chamber that has a device that wicks the water up into it , then a fan induces a draft across it , this produces evaporation of the water into the air flow , this air is then ducted into the air handler for the structure (home?)
now that being said the water chamber needs constant refilling due to evaporation of water from air flow , most times this is handled from a solenoid valve that is basically an electric operated valve , and yes it's logical that it could be tied to a humidistat for demand use only .

also this type of humidifier requires frequent cleaning or it may back up and spill water in the wrong places ,especially if there isn't a demineralizing filter on water line , as the minerals that naturally occur in water don't evaporate and get left inside the chamber , making less and less room for new water to be added

Does not give mist

Try running vinegar through it. This helps to demineralize it. Once it's clean, put salt in it to create more steam.

Why does it discharge a white powder in the mist?

  • Sorry to read about your problem, I hope this helps you out.
  • you could say you have dirty water. Unplug the humidifier from the wall.
  • 2 Remove the existing water from the humidifier. Water contains several types of minerals, including iron and sodium, which cause the white powder when released into the air.
  • 3 Clean the humidifier according to the manufacturer's instructions. This may involve disassembling the unit and replacing the humidifier's filter.
  • 4 Pour demineralized or distilled water into the humidifier's tank. These liquids have a lower mineral content than tap water.
  • 5 Consider switching to a humidifier that comes equipped with a demineralizing filter, which removes the minerals found in tap water before they are dispersed into the air.

    How to clean bionaire bcm4530

the easiest way to clean the unit is to fill the unit with vinegar and water. it takes 1 cap full of vinegar per gallon of water. run all the water out of it. now if you don't like the smell of vinegar what you can do is take some bleach let it sit in the take for about 20 minutes. wipe out the rest of theunit with water and then rinse the tank very thoroughly before placing it back on theunit. once you have done that the unit will be cleaned. now ifyou don't want to do either one of those options. you can always call the manufacturer or check around and local hardware stores and they will have cleaning solutions taht don't have any smell or anything to them and you can put that in your unit as well. if you have any more questions please feel free to ask.

    Humidifier not working

Ensure there is water in the tank.
    • This may be caused by mineral deposits in the water channels. Try the following: Clean the water tank, base and vapor nozzel with a damp cloth to remove any build up in the water channel.
    • When was the last time the cartridge was changed. (If it’s been over 3 months, this could be the reason why the unit is not working properly.)
    • Unscrew the demineralization cartridge and run the unit, if it starts to mist then you need a new cartridge. (insert cartridge link here)
    • The screw cap for the water tank, onto which one first screws in the demineralization cartridge, has a small rubber gasket. make sure that gasket is not too far down against the outer screw cap. If it is the spring loaded button would not work properly to let the water descend into the base tank .
The solution: push up on that small rubber gasket so that it is as far up and away from the screw cap as it can be without falling off, and voila! you get mist!!
    • If you have changed the filter recently then take out the cartridge and run the unit without the cartridge for about 15 to 20 minutes.

    Hunter Humidifier #33222

    From The Hunter Manual
    1. Turn the humidifier ‘OFF’ and unplug the unit.
    2. Lift the main housing and remove the water dispersion tray and the PermaWick™ Filters. The motor is attached to the main housing. Do not place the motor near water. Do not use a wet towel on the motor or motor housing as electrical shock may occur.
    3. The PermaWick™ Filter should be cleaned in a vinegar and water solution to remove any mineral buildup. Place in a solution of one (1) gallon of water and eight (8) ounces of undiluted white vinegar. Allow the filter to soak for 20 minutes.
    4. After soaking, rinse it several times with clean water. Place the PermaWick™ Filter in a location where it can drip dry while you clean the other parts of your humidifier.
    5. Remove the water tank from the base and empty any water that is left in the tank. Soak the base in a mixture of one (1) gallon of water and eight (8) ounces of vinegar for 20 minutes.
    6. After soaking, wipe the base with a soft cloth or sponge to remove any mineral build up. Rinse with clean water several times. If you are planning on storing the humidifier, be sure the base is completely dry.
    7. Fill the water tank with one (1) gallon of water and eight ounces of undiluted white vinegar. Replace the tank cap and shake the tank vigorously until all interior surfaces of the tank have been exposed to the water/vinegar mixture.
    8. Empty the tank of the water/vinegar mixture. Rinse it several times with clean water and then replace the tank cap. If you are planning on storing the humidifier, dry it inside and out, leaving the cap off to allow the tank to completely dry. Continue to clean the other parts of your humidifier.
    9. Remove the water diffuser cap by squeezing the two tabs as shown in Figure 3. Rinse the cap in clean water to remove any debris. If the cap contains hard water residue, soak it in a mixture of one (1) quart of water and two (2) ounces of vinegar for 20 minutes.
Rinse well and reinstall the water diffuser cap. Do not expose motor or other electrical components to water.
    10. Wipe the surfaces of the main housing with a soft cloth.
    11. Once all the parts are clean, reassemble the humidifier, and follow the USING YOUR HUMIDIFIER to continue use. If you are storing the humidifier, make sure the parts are completely dry, reassemble, and store in a dry location
