Oh wow, well lightning can do a # on flat panels TV's. You could possibly have several boards that are damaged. so when you turn on the set, do you have any audio at all? is the screen pitch black? white? blue?

SOURCE: lightning strike and tv picture messed up

This unit needs to be sent or taken in to a service center for complete testing and service. The lightning strike has caused a component failure, in the main board of the television. This is the board that controls all the functions of the television. The customer service telephone number for Insignia is 1-877-467-4289. You can also go to the website www.insignia-products.com. Go to the customer support section and ask them for help getting you television evaluated and serviced. I hope this information helps you solve your problem.

Which circuit board on my Smart TV might be broken after a possible lightning strike. There are two main ones. The power is getting to the unit, but I can't get the menus, connections etc to work.

Nobody can predict, what might have been happened to your TV after a lightning strike. Do you thing anybody can? Is any technician have a super-natural power to predict the faults that might have been happened due to lightning (More than 10 Million volts to start on stroke) ? Can you?
Sorry.
Contact the authorized service center. OK?

Will a nearby lightning strike cause a power board failure?

It could happen yes it would depend where the strike entered the TV. Not all lighting strikes hit on the electrical lines, on a TV they can come through the cable, as well as a antenna if you have one hooked up.

Lightning strike at house, tv not working. Standy light now blinking 4 times.

Hi.
Yeah, lightning can wipe out electronics really easy.
I would file a claim with your homeowner's insurance policy.
Surely they have these kinds of things in your policy.
As far as getting it fixed, first you will need to get estimates from 3 different companies for your insurance company.
I would take it to BestBuy, Fry's, Staple's, or CompUSA.
All these places have service centers, and I am sure that they have all seen lightning strike damage and insurance quotes.

I hope that you get it going again, or that you get an approved claim, as it was an act of God, not an intentional act which affected your tv.

Good luck to you, and have a good day.

Our hp printer j4680c took a lightning strike. We replaced the power adapter but when we plug it into the printer the light goes out on the adapter. Is there anything else we can try? The unit doesn't...

This sounds as if it has shorted out the main power board inside the printer. Some small TV Repair shops handle out of warranty printer repairs, but will charge considerably for this. Unless your willing to pull it apart it would be more economical to replace the printer. But ask around, someone may be willing to give you a quote, and this should be weighed against the cost of a replacement
Unfortunately with lightning strikes the amount of power surging up the line can destroy many components inside the printer, and not much can be done from the outside.
Sorry it was not the answer your looking for, but lightning is a electrical devices worst enemy!!

I had a lightening strike at my home. Since then, the garage door does not function with wall switch or remotes. when i press the switch, light comes ON on the door opener and i hear a click but nothing...

Well, I don't think that disconnecting the garage door from the garage door opener would affect function.

The lightning strike could have destroyed the circuitry inside the garage door opener, seeing that it won't operate with the wall switch or remotes.

It's likely that a board was fried by the lightning which would render the garage door inoperable.

What happens if ur scanner has been hit by lighting?>

A power surge such as a nearby lightning strike can easily "fry" the circuitry in a scanner, leaving you with nothing more than a paperweight. Most have no circuit breaker and no internal fuse to protect them. Sorry.

When I turn on my computer nothing happens but the light flashes?

A lightening strike!!!!!! The power surge from a strike could have blown the computer's motherboard and processor. Did you have any surge protection and was the computer on at the time? chances are the computers fried.
There is one last thing you can do, that is remove the side panel from the desktop so you can see the motherboard, you will see a battery like this >>ecb2000.jpg. Near to the battery you will see a plastic "jumper" this will reset the cmos if you move it to the other position, turn the pc on, if nothing happens the cmos has been cleared, put the jumper back in its original position and start the computer again, if you still get nothing them some if not all the components inside the computer has been fried.

Good luck
