Re: Brother 2040 printer. Toner speckles on all the...
Inside the printer the last step is to melt the toner to the paper. This is done with a Fuser and it heats up to over 300 degrees, that's why the paper is hot when you take it out. If the fuser is not working properly then you will get flakes of toner. So sounds like the fuser needs to be replaced. Because of the electricity and high temperature that is normally done at either a computer repair shop or printer technician Also fusers are relatively expensive, $200-$300..

Sounds like the toner cart. has toner packed at one end and possibly the drum cartridge is dirty. Remove both from the printer, separate the 2 and vacuum the drum cart. - them blow it clean. Run the drum wire cleaner (purple/blue tab on front edge of drum cart.) back & forth a number of times. Blow out the inside of the printer to get out toner dust. Reinstall toner back into drum cart, then hold GO/Control button down until all lights are on, let go, reinstall toner&drum back into printer, close door. Power down - then back on. That should do it. Worst case, you'll have to replace the drum unit.
That is normal with this printer. I own a Cartridge World ink and toner refilling store and we've found that the new Brother color laser machines (that take the TN-110 or TN-115) drop toner speckles onto the pages. This is because the cartridges were designed poorly. We do not recommend new Brother color laser machines for this reason.

have you check you toner, it has a white strap, you need to strip it to open the nozzle of your toner. but before you do that you need to shake it first to have a sharp print out before you would strip that white strap. have a nice day
Sounds to me like the toner - that is the toner cartridge has the wrong toner in it. The drum should be OK - clean it up first and then use a genuine toner cartridge OR you can buy our refill kit on eBay - search for Brother HL2040 - michellem6123
Do you have the owners manual? Did you cancel the document from the computer and turn the printer off for at least 30 secs. The speckled print and lines are usually caused by a defective toner or worn drum. Usually a drum will last for 10 thousand or more cycles. But sometimes prematurely wear out. Make sure you are absolutely using a genuine Brother OEM supply. Generics have a high failure rate. This is not a heavy duty printer. When you need a drum and toner together, it will be just as cheap to buy another low end Brother printer.
