Hi, when I use my bissell, the indicator lights which show you how well you are operating the machine are very haphazard. Sometimes it shows one red light and other times nothing; I have tried slowing the movement down and then speeding up to see if it makes any difference but nothing. Should I just assume it may be a connection problem or am I doing something wrong when cleaning carpets?
According to the owners manual there is a red light that signals temperature, this light will come on when the water reaches optimal temperature, the heater may need to warm up again. Here is a link to your owner's manual.

Check your filters. One on Water Tank Cap (looks like a screen) the other under the Flow Indicator. Turn the Flow Indicator cap counter-clockwise and remove it. Lift out the rotor and under it is the filter. Clean the filter and reinstall in reverse order. If that didn't work the contact Bissell Consumer Care at 1-800-237-7691 Hope that helped.
The screw that is located in the center of the handle, that holds the assecory hose holder must be tight. My screw was missing, put one in and cured the problem. Sounds stupid but it worked. Got this idea off the Bissell web site. Also if you have a pump belt it may need replacing. The cover is on the side of the machine. Go to the Bissell web site and look up by your model # and name of machine. There are several quick fixes that you can do yourself. Why pay for expensive repairs when the Bissell site will help you for free. Good luck.
Remove the cap for the flow indicator, then there 6 screws to remove to take off the top, before removing the top, turn the smart mix valve to about the half way point so the piston won't fall off. When you are ready to re-install the top cover, just before pushing it all of the way down, turn the smart mix valve to the water only setting, then push it into place, re-install the screws and the flow indicator parts.
