Question about Optoma EP706 DLP Projector

Optoma ep 706, lamp lights on,replaced lamp, still not working

Hi, I have an optoma ep 706, only used it less than total 80 hours since I got it. The red lamp light was on, so went ahead and purchased the new lamp, and replaced it, however, I still get the red lamp light. When I plug in the power, the motor seems to get going for about a second and the lamp sign turns on and the machine just shuts down w/ the lamp light on again.

I already wasted $200 for the new lamp and the optoma will charge me another $300 for out of warranty cost. non sense.

could someone help me to diagnose what other possible problem that I may resolve?, I think i'll just do it myself willing take a chance of breaking the machine. Please someone help!! thank you

This is an unfortunate incidence and i will send you the serviceable manual of your projector if you can send me your contact email address to my email.Yes ,there are instruction to follow to replace lamps in projector if not you might miss it. First you must confirm that the lamp is OK from the vendors you purchase before anything.

Why would my projector refuse to start with a seemingly intact light bulb?

If you only have 300 hours on it it should still be under warranty. Before doing something to void that I would check with Optoma techs.

Lamp comes on briefly and then goes out

Check poewer connection
Check if fan filder is dirty ( if it is just hoover it out)
If "lamp" light on top of the projector blinks or stays lit - lamp probably faulty
How old is the Projector/lamp (average lamp life is around 2000-3000 hours)

My Optoma HD72 projector operates for about 1 minute and then shuts off. I kept my old bulb around "just in case", I've replaced the bulb with the old one and have the same problem.

The problem is not over-heating. The Optoma HD72 has a known problem that Optoma won't advertise. The lamp driver is faulty. They simply have to replace the lamp driver. I purchased a spare lamp with my original purchase. I had the exact same experience as you at around 1200 hours on the lamp in ECO mode. I used the spare lamp. Same thing happened at about 1200 hours. I had a friend at Optoma. he confided to me the problem. I sent it in and they replaced the lamp driver at no charge. I got another 800 hours out of the first lamp and am now using my second lamp and have about 600 hours on it. The pic quality is so good with this projector (used Digital Video Essentials to calibrate) that I'll just order a bare lamp or two and use the existing lamp housings when I need a new bulb.

Hi Pierre,

Did you resolve this issue. I am facing a similar on. After a few minutes, the lamp shut down and the the red lamp light turns on. I was thinking it is an overheating issue.

I have an Optoma EP716 projector. It has run for

either the lamp has/is going to expire, or the ballast is bad. if the lamp has bulges or black spots on the inside, replace the lamp and clean out your projector with canned air. too much dust keeps in the heat and makes a 2000 hour lamp go in 1100 hours.

Light does not come on -- we replaced the bulb--still dark

Sounds like the lamp timer has reached it's limit. In your users manual you will find the proceedure on replacing the lamp and reseting the timer. Once this is done the projector should work.

Optoma H77 - Lamp shuts off after coming on for 5-10 minutes

Hi SoonerJDP

This is indeed a warning that the hours on the lamp has been used up and that you will have to replace the lamp.

Remember to reset the lamp timer once you've replaced the lamp.
