Assuming that you have the correct temperature selected for your clothes, there are two likely causes:
If the clothes are showing randomly shaped burn marks, the dryer is overheating. This would be accompanied by a burnt smell on the clothes. The high limit thermostat is the culprit.
If the burn marks are dark streaks, the clothes are getting pinched between the drum and the inside of the dryer that does not move. This is caused by worn bearings, slides or rollers. Should you choose to repair this yourself, there is a great deal on a kit with all of the parts you need plus a new belt for only $32 here:
Hi. Thanks for using fixya. I can help you. When clothes get marked or torn in your dryer, check these:
RollersYour dryer may use rollers, or wheels, to support the rear of the clothes drum. When these are worn out, they may cause the clothes drum to drop down slightly, which can pinch the clothes between the top of the clothes drum and the rear of the dryer interior. When the rollers wear out, you need to replace the whole set.Rear sealYour dryer may have a felt-like seal at the rear of the drum. If this seal is worn, torn, or missing, clothes can get caught and torn in the space between the clothes drum and the rear of the dryer interior. When the rear seal wears out, you need to replace it.Front glidesYour dryer probably uses nylon or plastic glides at the front of the clothes drum for support. When these are worn out, they may cause the clothes drum to drop down slightly, which can pinch the clothes between the top of the clothes drum and the front of the dryer interior. When the glides wear out, you need to replace them as a set.Front sealMany dryers have a felt-like seal at the front of the drum. If this seal is worn, torn, or missing, the clothes in the dryer may get caught and torn in the space between the clothes drum and the front of the dryer interior. When the seal wears out, you need to replace it.
how old is dryer. drive belt may be slipping. Unit may have a faulty control that allows element to superheat. You have a potential fire hazard. What type of clothes are getting the burn marks? Should they be dried in a dryer?
check to see if you have bent door hinges first, do this by opening the door all the way down and see if it is level with the floor. if it goes past level then the hinges are bent. guess someone may have fell on the door or used it as a step. if so, then you can take a hand towel and roll it up, then put it at the bottom of the door and close the door gently to "bend" the hinges back into place. this will aloow the door to stay closed and should also take care of the "burn" marks on your clothes. i would guess the unit was overheating from the door not closing right allowing air to enter around the door. that will cause the unit to overheat and leave marks on your clothes.
HI thanks for your question. the problem with your dryer, is that the front felt bearing is worn. and dropped the drum a bit and clothes getting caught. replace the front bearing and the back bearing. not too expensive. thanks the appliance doc. please rate my question. thanks.
problem is caused by drum seal usually the back one look closely at seal to see if there appears to be rust if so replacedrum seal ..clothes ten to rub against it while in motion causing brown streaks..would replace both front and rear just to be sure front doesn't give problems soon
