Start by taking the top off, you should see the motor at the top or bottom in the corner, there should be two 13mm bolts on the bracet holing the motor to the bracket, you will need to loosen these to slacken the drive belt. Once thats done undo all bolts and replace motor then follow these steps backwards!

My Maytag Performa Dryer model PYG3360AWW wont turn on it just buzzes when I push the start button. what do I do to fix it?

See if you can turn the drum by hand, there should be some resistance. If its locked you will need to disassembly the dryer and see what is binding. If everything(motor, rollers, pullys)spins freely they you most likely have a faulty motor winding and will need to replace it.

Will not start, no light in display

I also just experienced this problem. I disassembled the dryer to replace the belt and motor, and after reassembling everything, making sure all wires were connected, the dryer would turn on but no drying level displayed

How stiff is the motor? You can lube them sometimes and free them up for a while:

Makes a humming noise but doesn't turn

Try this, open the dryer door and hold down the door light switch. Turn on the dryer and press start. When you hear the motor humming, turn the drum clockwise with your hand to see if it will turn. If itruns, you have a bad motor and will need to be replaced. If it doesn't turn, something is jammedinside and you will need to disassemble the unit to find the jam.
Hope this helps.

Dryer makes loud humming noise but drum doesn't turn when I push start.

Check to see if the drum will turn by hand. If so, leave the door open but push the light switch button down and start the unit. Once you hear the humming sound, manually turn the drum with your hand to start. If the drum turns normally, you have a bad motor and needs to be replaced. If the drum does not turn, something is jamming the motor and needs to be disassembled and inspected.
Good luck

Overheating dryer - motor replacement???

Good day,
You said "The dryer is still overheatng". If your not describing the motor but the whole machine then that problem will have to be resolved.
Maytag's build lint up badly in the blower housing area and the duct between it and the filter. Requires disassembling the front of the dryer and cleaning that area as well as determining if the blower wheel is loose on the motor shaft requiring replacing.

If the overheating is the motor itself, then replacing it would be a common item on that brand.

Dryer won't start

Good day,
Sounds like the motor is trying to start but can't. If the drum turns freely then the motor is likely shot.
If the drum is locked, then disassembling the machine and find out why. Frankly once the windings are burnt, beside anything else that could be wrong, the motor is unlikely serviceable.

Thank you for using FixYa

Motor buzzes - won't start

It can be that you use engine oil to the bearing so that it will work loose . because sometimes grease can stick or carry more dirt found inthe engine .dont change the motor yet coz there is still a solution and make sure that the bearing is clean before lubricating with engine oil and place to the motor.

Hotpoint dryer

Completely disassemble your vent from the dryer to where it exits the building. Clean out all lint. Disconnect the dryer from the electrical service and check for lint build up inside the machine. This lint build up usually makes the motor shut down on it thermal overload. Check the motor also to see if the air vents on it are blocked with lint. If no lint is present, the motor or the start relay need to be replaced.
