I checked everything I could think of. Jumped the thermal fuse witch is open and still won't start. checked the door switch, the start button. If I checked the motor correctly, I have continuity on the start winding of the motor. What else could it be?

If you checked continuity of the start winding, did you check continuity of the the run winding?

Does the motor try to turn at all?

Please reply the complete model number so that the wiring diagram can be reviewed.

Does it start when the button is pushed?

Is it plugged in, and you know it is getting power?

Are you 100% certain the dryer has 240 VAC? Just because a light may light does not guarantee both legs of 240 VAC are hot.

If you measured motor continuity, then you must be able to read a wiring diagram/schematic. Most Kenmore units have a wiring diagram/schematic glued to the back of the rear service panel, or folded and stored in the control head.

I am unable to find a wiring diagram on the internet, but, you have a door switch, and the timer/control.

Use the wiring diagram to trace the signal path's to determine where the failure is.

Let me know if you have any questions and I will do my best to help.

I have a Kenmore Series 70 dryer wont start, just hums

Check for correct voltage at the terminal block on the back of the dryer, where the power cord attaches to the dryer. You should be getting 220/240 volts, check by way of a voltage tester.
If the voltage is correct, then could be the motor capacitor or the motor itself, or start button?
Good Luck !

Kenmore 70 series dryer wont start. I was going to replace the start button but cannot figure out how to get it off with out breaking stuff. do i need to pull all the panels off?

There is a switch that sits behind that start button. To get to it, unplug the dryer and pull it away from the wall. There is a metal cover that runs along the upper rear side of the dryer -- remove that and you will see the switch behind that button. You can disconnect the wires going to it (you may want to mark them) and pull the button off of the front of the switch. Then pull that plastic tab up and the switch will pop out if you twist it clockwise.
