Vgn a170b ram upgrade problem

I have just bought 2 1gb ram ddram pc2700 for my laptop VGN A170B. Originally it has install 2 x 256mb pc2700. When i install the 2 x 1gb ram does not boot. But if i install 1 gb in one slot and in the other 1x 256mb it works fine. I tried all the possible combinations and it works only if i have at least one 256mb install. Is not max gb problem. I have tried as i said all combinations. If i try only one 1 gb either of them does not boot. I forgot to say that once it boot with both 2x 1gb bios recognised them but windows said that you have a recent hardware upgrade...But this happen only the first time that i try them. Please help

Whether DDR is compatible for hp pavilion dv1000 or only sdram is compatible. With which ram can i upgrade.

Hi,

According to the maintenance manual only 266Mhz Ram can be added to the notebook.
This would be SDRAM.
Hope this helps!!

Kind regards!!!

Thanks in advance for helping me to resolve this win 7 driver issue, I added 4GB from Fry's electronics cheap $25 and upgrad my daughter's Sony VGN-FE890N to Windows 7, cannot get the video driver to...

If you look at Sony's main site, this particular model is no longer being made or sold. There are a few refurb shops that sell it, but I don't see one in stock anywhere. It looks as though this was a strong 32 bit system originally. Makes me wonder why you chose the 64 bit route.

Sony will almost definitely not build drivers for a model it no longer makes and sells, as you'll find most manufacturers won't. My only suggestion at this point would be to try a 32 bit upgrade in Win 7 and see if that works.

Also, a 32 built system will often not recogize even a full 3 gig of ram. You might also try removing the 4 gig of ram and reinstalling your original ram. You didn't say which speed ram you used.

Sharp Actius AV18 does not recognize added 512MB PC2700 RAM. The machine still only sees 256MB. Is there something else I need to do?

I assume the laptop had originally 256Mb RAM and you put 512Mb RAM in a the spare memory slot and you expected to see 768Mb of memory, is this correct? Try removing the 256Mb memory module and insert the 512Mb memory module and see if the laptop boots up with 512Mb of RAM. If it doesn't boot up then the RAM is either incompatible or faulty. Try using RAM modules from the same manufacturer.
