Question about Washing Machines

Open Question

I have Maytag washer LAT3500AAE and want to know is there a way to tighten drive belt? I see how easily one can tighten the pump belt but not drive belt. Is there a way to tighten at the motor pulley?

SOURCE: Maytag LAT9757AAE,top load washer won't spin.

Sounds like a sticky brake assy. This type of brake is very tricky and should be checked be a service technician

It's possible to do it yourself but not recommended because of the 200 lb. pressure spring. Hope the diagram will help.

SOURCE: The Maytag washer doesn't spin and had a burning

You should have a tensioner pully (a small wheel on a piece of spring steel) that hold the belt tight.
If that spring steel is broken or weak, then you will have to take the broken one to your local appliance repair parts shop and obtain a new one.

That should keep the belt tight and keep the drum spinning.... -Jim

How to tighten the belt of Maytag washer model SAV365AAWW?

Depends how good you are with disassembly. It's not that difficult and you need to shut off the water and unplug the machine. The front needs to be removed and on the bottom is where the belts are. Loosening the pump retention screws and pulling the pump towards you while you tighten at least 1 not to hold the tension. Then tighten the other screws on the pump and reverse disassembly order. Too tight on the belt will burn your pump up and of course too loose will allow them to slip. I would look and see why the belts are slipping. Water leaks, worn out? For the proper tension, on the center of the belts, you should be able to press your index finger on it and it will push in about 1/2". Good luck

My washer won't agitage on my maytag washer model fav6800aww. first started with a squeaking noise

Move the motor or pulley out of the way a bit and remove the old belt and replace with new, unstretched belt, tighten the motor or pulley and that is it.

See if there is a pulley on the belt that can be moved to tighten the tension. Often the motor's mounting bolts can be loosened and the motor itself can be moved to tighten the belt and restore friction. If not possible, a new tight belt is in order.

What is blck powder under the motor of belt drive Maytag washer MAV4057AWW

The powder is belt wear. Not to worry though, they last a long time. There is always some wear on all belts as they slide into the channel on the pulley.

On my washer the belt come off

You will need to use a socket set to loosen the belt tension bolt. Then place the belt over the drive wheels.

Now tighten the belt tensioning bolt, while applying force to the belt to tighten it around the drive wheels.

take care!

Will not spin on spin cycle

That is a single belt driven washer built by maytag. Check the lid switch for propah operation. If it is fine tip the washer back do an inspection of the beltthemobilian_2528.jpg
Check the pump for tightness sometimes they lock up or get something in em. If that is fine turn the main drive pulley and see if it releases the brake and lets the drum turn easily. One direction it locks the tub and agitates and the other direction is pumps out the water and spins.

The washer is making loud squealing noises. I took the front panel off to take a close look and notice the motor is able to be moved back and forth. Is this normal? I tried tightening the mounts and it...

Set the drive belt over the drum, loosen the motor slightly, because I think you are cross treading the belt. check the belt before fitting to see if there is any damage to the belt. With your hand put the belt on to the drum, back onto the motor, turn very slowly until the belt finds it's own parallel (the grooves line up), then tighten the motor exactly where it is in place. If there is NO damage to the belt, set the machine onto a fast spin, empty. That should tell you it's a belt problem. But you may have to spend 10 bucks on a new belt. Cheaper than a new machine. Hope all goes go well for you, let me know! Dave
