Did you recently change or install a program that would affect the resolution and card output? Try booting into safe mode by holding the "shift" key during boot. From there right-click on the desktop and hit 'properties'-> 'display properties' -> 'settings' , check your resolution and drop it to 800x600 and then reboot. If everything goes back in normally make sure you have the right windows drivers for your video card. You can also check the driver version and settings while you're in safe mode. Sometimes the windows update drivers can act screwy and I would recommend getting them directly from your card manufacturer.

Most of the Dell cases can be opened without tools, it should not be too difficult.
Here's the link to the Dell 3000 support site.
Take a look at "Removing the Cover"
Next click on then "Removing and Installing Parts" and then click on "Cards".
You should be able to replace your modem with any PCI modem compatible with your operating system. Go to Bestbuy or Officemax and tell them what you're looking for and they'll help you choose a modem that is compatible. Just follow the modem manufacturer's directions to install. Sometimes they want you to install software then hardware, sometimes the opposite. Just follow their directions.
I hate to beg, but many people don't realize we don't get paid for this, we just like trying to help. I hope you'll take a moment and rate this solution if you found it helpful.

SOURCE: Have no sound
You can try re-installing the sound-card drivers, you can get them here --> http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/driverslist.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&os=WW1&osl=en&catid=&impid=&SystemID=DIM_P4_4600. If the updated sound-card drivers don't work and you need to purchase a replacement sound card, here are your options ( according to your Dell model ) from bestbuy.com --> http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?_dyncharset=ISO-8859-1&id=pcat17071&type=page&st=PCI+Sound+Cards&sc=Global&cp=1&nrp=15&sp=&qp=&list=n&iht=y&usc=All+Categories&ks=960. Hope that this helps you out.
