You want to install the "full solution" or "HP LaserJet Full Feature Software and Driver". Their "Plug and Play Basic Driver " installs do not work. Just google "hp 1020 driver" and then select your OS from the drop-down menu item. If you have XP x64 then use the XP 32-bit driver but they are still making driver for newer OSes like Win 8.1 unlike some of their printers and it was built long enough ago that you can even use it on Windows 2000.
You need to go to this site and download the Vista driver for your Printer http://www.siliconguide.com/drivers/device/96/ Then follow these instructions.
the printer or at least be sure it is turned off. I'd do
both and when the CD software program asks you to connect the printer
to the USB port, do so and it should again work properly.
Hope this helps. Bud
As soon as you connect and power on the printer the comuter will detect the printer if its compitible it will search for the driver, may be xp cd or downloading exact driver will solve the full issue. if pc is not detecting try changing the cable.
