Verify the batteries are not an issue as advised, if they check ok the capacitor discharge circuit that fires the flash is defective and will have to be replaced, this is a job for a Pentax factory service center, look on the net for a phone number or in your owners guide.

Hi Arcan

I assume that you have the flash set to on, but double check again to make sure and then proceed to the next steps.
First try opening up the camera and seeing if there is power going to the flash bulb by attaching a multimeter to it and then seeing if you get any voltage. If you do, then the bulb is bad and needs to be replaced, if you don't then, something else is bad and it is better to replace the camera rather than fix it if you want to have the flash work.

The flash uses a lot of battery power so even though your other camera features work it's probably the battery!

Digital cameras "eat" batteries... you need to invest in a set of rechargable batteries

Can be cause of a bad condition of a battery, it cannot get charged anymore, even you try so...

try using and test it first with a new battery.

Test the camera with Alkaline new batteries, and check for oxide on batteryu contacts.
If you still get the problem, that is probably a faulty flash unit and must be replaced.
Take the camera to a repair shop for a quick checkup, they will tell you if it is the battery or an internal fault at a glance.

Hi!

Your "FLASH MODE" may be set to OFF!

Check your manual, you probably have 5-6 flash modes available. You need to go to your flash mode and see if it is turned off. Hope this helps

My Pentax Optio M90's Flash has stopped working.. it doesn't matter if I have selected the flash to be on or off it still won't work. Even when setting are set at auto it still won't work...

Hi kerritm,

This indicated that it's time you need to replace your flash , therefore you can get it done via a service center,

The camera's flash has a certain life and you can't expect it to be ok for many years together ,

In unfortunate cases , it stops working due to hard ware failure.

Therefore , Please get the flash replaced and you would be able to use it.

Hope this helps..:)

My camera pentax optio wp wont turn on. though is

If possible, check the charger output or the charge status of the batteries with a voltmeter. That will narrow the field for you. If the charger and batteries seem OK, your problem may be due to corrosion on the battery contacts inside the camera which can prevent the full power of the batteries from flowing into the camera. Try this free fix before you do anything else: remove the batteries and wipe the camera contacts firmly with a dry cloth (heavy corrosion may require cleaning with a wire brush, steel wool, or sandpaper). Remove any residue that may have fallen into the battery compartment during cleaning, then wipe both ends of the batteries and place them back in the camera. This cleaning clears the problem about 90% of the time. If it doesn't work for you, your camera may have a problem that requires professional repair.

Flash not working

Hi there and welcome to FixYa.

Bad batteries can cause that. The flash module needs alot of power to charge. Your camera will still work, but without enough power to charge the flash module, it may take along time. Again.
Try fresh batteries.
