If you mean the 85mm, it's not an autofocus lens. Nor does it have the electronics to communicate with the camera. You need to set the camera to manual exposure mode (turn the mode dial to M) and set the exposure manually. Set the shutter speed by turning the command dial on the back of the camera and the aperture by turning the aperture ring on the lens.

Again, this is a manual lens. No auto-anything. But it's a nice fast lens, with shallow depth of field when you want it.

Thanks a lot. It is vivitar 85mm f/1.4. I will set the exposure mode to M and try. The lenses that I have before I bought this one, always auto focused with my D80 so I expected this to behave the same. Also, when I shot a few pictures, though I can clearly see the picture through the view finder, it was blurred when it came out. So its just that I have to get used to the manual focus concept or am I missing something? Please advice.

It could be the focus. Your other lenses may also have vibration reduction, which the Vivitar does not. VR attempts to compensate for camera motion. Without VR, you'll probably need to shoot at 1/125 seconds or faster if you're handholding the camera.

Thanks again. I will try to shoot more pictures and see how it goes.

SOURCE: Sigma 170-500mm APO lens on Nikon D50 won't autofocus or shoot

When you get a flashing EE, it means there is an Eror somewhere. Most cameras have a botton you press to reset it. Usually it is the battery check button. Try that. Also try taking the lens off the camera, unlocking the aperture ring, remount the lens and then lock the aprture ring to the minimum F stop. I think this should solve the problem.

Hi, I had this problem and found that the level inside the camera for the exposure shutter was bent inwards. This was preventing the lens from adjusting the exposure and also from autofocusing. To fix I just bent it back outwards

Will an auto focus Vivitar Series 1 100-400mm work on a nikon d80

Vivitar Series 1 lenses were available with a variety of lens mounts for different camera makes. If the lens has a Nikon mount then it will work on a Nikon D80. If it has some other mount then it will not fit.

My 18-135mm lens on a D80 will not autofocus. My other lenses are fine so it is not the camera?

In AF-S mode, the camera will not shoot until it acquires focus. Look on page 29 of the D80 manual. If that does not help you. Then contact Nikon they will be able to walk you through some steps to see if there is something wrong with the lens. Nikon digital 1-800-645-6689

Won't autofocus

First thing I would do is clean the contacts on the camera and the lens. Do you have this issue with another lens, if not then it is not the camera. If you do then recheck the lens. You could call Nikon Digital as well at 1-800-645-6689

Tamron makes their lenses available with a variety of mounts. A lens with a Canon mount will fit Canon cameras but not Nikon cameras. A lens with a Nikon mount will fit Nikon cameras but not Canon cameras. As long as you buy a lens with a Canon mount, you shouldn't have any problems.

Try you 18-200 lens on another Nikon DSLR. If it still does not Autofocus. It is the lens. Sometimes the electrical contact points of the lens are not making correct contact with the camera. ok?

Nikon d40 wont autofocus

Your 28-90 AF-D lens can't autofocus with the D40, which requires AF-S lenses with a focus motor in the lens. Sigma lenses with "HSM" (HyperSonic Motor) in the name also have the focus motor.
