If its an old laptop it may just be that the battery has had it, you could try wrapping battery in tissue then cling film and placing it in freezer overnight. Take it out in the morning and wrap it in fresh tissue and allow it to stand for 4-5 hours, thoroughly dry it and put it back in...sounds odd I know but it might refresh battery memory, if not then get a replacement off ebay
