Compaq presario desktop computer sr1130nx on/off switch

I am having trouble turning on my computer. i have to push the switch in 40-50 times before the computer goes on.

i am afraid to shut it off as it has happened already 3 different times. i have been letting it hibernate overnight for fear of shutting it but it has been on for almost 2 weeks now and i am afraid that the fan will just burn out overnight or something.

this just started last month otherwise the computer works perfectly.
could it be the actual power switch go bad and can it be replaced??

    Thanks for your input.

I will try to do that this weekend.

From your comment about watching how far the switch goes in would that indicate it may be worn out or broken if it goes on too far? I'll let you know what happens.

    Thanks, citronvodka213

To trouble shoot this problem,I would open the case and make sure the cable are tight from the power switch to the motherboard, you can do this by sliding off the front of the case.

Once the front case is off you should be able with a pen or pencil push the switch slightly to turn it on. But watch and see is how far down the on/off switch goes in.

I'm trying to find a downloadable driver package for my friends compaq presario sr1130nx. it won't let me connect to the internet or even create a new network. i just need to transfer it from my dell...

Take a USB Flash Drive or CD and download only the Ethernet Controller Driver for the Compaq. Install the driver to the Compq, connect it to the net and download the package directly to the Compaq.

I have a Compaq SR1130NX computer. It had some major problems, so I was reformatting the computer, or so I thought and I put in the Quick Restore CD for my older computer I used to have which was Windows...

If you can gain access to another computer and then the web site to get to Compaq's web site I would.
A) have the model and serial # with you.
B) Go to their support page and or Tech support page.
C) They may have an instant Tech/talk message page where you can talk to a Compaq tech with instant messenger.
If not you could just send them an E-mail with your need to get the restore disks sent to you. You may have to pay a small shipping fee but they should be able to get them to you.
Some one told me that they were able to get a restore disk/software from the web site. You may need to have a large USB drive or a Flash memory card to load this recovery software on.
Worth the try!

CANNOT NOT POWER ON MY COMPAC PRESARIO SR1130NX

Unfortunately, this means that power is getting to the power supply but it is not going from the Power Supply to the Motherboard/Devices. The power supply is broken and is not converting the power from the wall to the proper voltage for the Motherboard/Devices. You will have to replace teh power supply.

Call HP, and I hope you are in warranty and get it replaced for free or you can order the exact same one from HP that originally comes with that model. 1-800-HP-INVENT for their tech support line.
