Re: convergence? not sure, check these pictures...

I had a similar problem with a Samsung 4226W. I ended up having to change the left IC (STK392-040), 4 of the 3.9 ohm resistors (RZ142-145) and the pico fuse (3.5A) near the right IC (STK392-040) I think that is the right numbers for the resistors (the RZ #'s)

Check Convergence IC's for cold solder joint pins. Also check the resistors in front of the IC's, they may have smoked or changed value. Replace IC's if you see burnt or discolored resistors.

Can you clarify "blurry", is the color skewed or even 3d looking? I am here to help and if you can post a photo here that would help---see attached photos of convergence problems which can fit the description you gave:

Akai 54 inch

Akai is a brand name used by Samsung who purchased the right.

If a 5-8 year old (model number and year are on back of set) you may have a convergence issue which is repairable.

see attached photos of typical convergence problems: Look like yours?

I have a Philips projection screen hd tv great picture but the color is way out off adjustment

see attached photo, it is a convergence problem.

If you have similar problem in customer menu is a way with the remote to adjust.

If it will not adjust there then the convergence chips are bad.

My Sony rear projection TV has three images that seems to be out of alignment. There is a blue image, A green image and a red image. What has happened and can it be fixed? Thank You, Art

It can be fixed, if picture is 3d looking it is what is called a convergence problem.

See attached photos of typical ones. This set uses two of the STK-392-560 convergence IC chips.

It can be a do it yourself repair but this does require being able to solder.

Parts cost would on EBAY be under 25 dollars.

Let me know if you want instructions, I have photos of the parts and the board they are on.

see attached photos.

Sony kp-53hs10 , images have a color out line ,picture is still fare.

IF picture looks 3d in some way it is convergence problem--see attached photo.

Depending on your skill parts cost will be under 25 dollars and I can tell you how to do the repair.

I will also attach photo of typical convergence part---look in your set to see what it uses.

If this told you something you did not know rate this solution as very helpful as I do this here for free.

Typical convergence problem, no two look the same.

Typical convergence chip and yours will have two, all have a STK number printed on the front of them.

If this told you something you did not know, rate this solution as very helpful as I do this here for free.

If you have questions, comment here and I will assist you.

The picture episodically gets red/green shadows

Sounds like a convergence problem.

These sets are prone to having this problem when first turned on or after a short warmup.

IN every case it means the convergence out chip or chips need to be replaced--I have seen dozens of Mitsubishi sets with this problem.

Confirm actual model number--I have step by step instructions for this repair and parts cost will be under 30 dollars.

see attached photo which is typical of convergence problem.

I am seeing shadow pictures and red colors on my screen

If it looks like the attached photos it is a convergence problem and typical.

I can tell you what is needed to repair this if you are a do it yourself person.

Let me know if the photos look ANYTHING like your problem.

Green Out Of Focus

Your TV most likely a convergence failure. ( common problem )

Here are some of the most common symptoms and example photos of a convergence problem

  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
Here are some photos of convergence problems.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the tv settings then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move them up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

You will need to replace the convergence chips and possibly some convergence resistors and pico fuses. Its a fairly easy DIY job or you can call in a pro. If you want to do the repair yourself check the site Their kits include a photo instruction guide, original OEM Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, thermal paste, email/phone support, etc.

Picture issues, not sure what the problem is, photos posted

It looks to me like the green is sagging down at the top, and this means that one of your convergence IC's has stopped working. Instead of replacing the whole module, locate the convergence IC (Samsung typically uses the STK392-040 IC's) that handles Green Vertical (GV) and replace it. Sometimes there is a fuse next to the IC that looks like a small resistor that opens up too. If you do not have experience changing convergence than have a qualified tech handle it for you.
