Check your antenna set up and connections. Make certain all connections are tight. Have you changed anything about the antenna recently, such as location, or stinger length?

What is the difference between GM338 and PRO7100

GM338 is an Asia/Pacific model. Available Lowband, VHF, UHF, in 1-25 or 25-45 watts.

PRO7100 is a Latin American model. Can program in English, Spanish, French and Portuguese. Available in 200 MHz, VHF, UHF, 700 MHz.

These are very similar to the CDM1250 mobile for use in the United States. The PRO7100 and GM338 are not type accepted for use in the United States.

External speaker no function

You have the correct external speaker connected, or a generic?

Some radios require certain external speakers to work properly, and generic speakers aren't always the solution.

Motorola 2-way radios of the model you have, may well come under this bracket.

Other than that, all I can suggest is: join yahoo group specific to your radio Make/Model, and the team there will advise you what's best for your radio, plus you can download manuals, schematics and other goodies for your radio and it's all free.

I hope That this has been of use to you.

Best regards,

Cdm1250 ignition on wire radio stays on

I dont understand your question, but ignition wire wich is conected at pin 10 in the accesory connector must be conected to the ignition, fuse is recomended for security reasons but you can use a 1 amp fuse, this line is just a sense to get the radio on or off folowing the ignition

Your radio is equivalent to the US version named the CDM1250 or CDM1550. The instruction manual for these radios is available on CD from most Motorola dealers.

Motorola CDM1250 UHF Radio

Renard, just offhand without see'ing the unit, I'd say that something got sparked wrong in the hookup process. The taletell "puff of smoke" tells me the protection circuit or protector diode got "smoked" in the process. It's more than a fuse now, the protection circuit is blowing the fuse, to stop further damage. I'd say that, at least the protector diode needs changed and to check out for any other damage. Probably need a good tech to visually "check" the unit thruout. Definately needs to have it put on the meters and guages to fix all the damage at one time, something that cannot be done by talking you thru it,,, Mechanic
