Re: No Sound from speakers
Is everything in this equation new and never worked right? That opens up endless possibilities for what the problem might be, but improper setup is most likely.
Assuming you have one of the variants of Windows:
Try going into the Control Panel.
Find the icon for Sounds and Audio Devices, under the Volume Tab see if Mute is checked. UNcheck it.
Also look at the Device Volume slider to make sure the volume isn't all the way down. I leave mine on HIGH.
The Sounds Tab allows you to assign sounds to certain events, like email notifications.

Hello frostyscoppe & micoh luv. I'm sorry to say that (like mine) they may have just 'packed in'! I had the same problem and contacted Harmon Kardon directly, They said there was a circuitry problem that couldn't be repaired and suggested I get the latest HK IIs. So I did and found these to be much more versatile and worth upgrading to. I thought my 'old' HDs were fine but sadly things aren't made to last like they used to be!!! If someone else is able to 'rescue' your originals I'd be very interested to hear their suggestions.
Your Codec is damaged. Reload your drivers for your sound card. First uninstall the old ones. Moving your non working speakers and they play fine says they are good. I have a problem that you have new speakers and the problem went away. Drivers do not care what speakers are on the other end. It only produces output. Now that your second pair is working correctly, put back the Harmons and see if the problem comes back
