Laptop got stucked up when connected thru network cable

Hi!  I got this problem more than a month already.  My HP laptop DV2855EE was purhased last October 30 and it's working fine then. When I went to Singapore WIFI connection is everywhere so I browse internet thru WIFI all the time.  After a month I came back to KSA and started also browsing the net thru WIFI.  Few days later I changed connection because I'm always downloading so it's faster when connected thru cable.  So after an hour my laptop got stucked up and I have to shut it down by pressing the power button ad then restart it again.  Since then it always got stucked up sometimes 7 to 8 times a day i'm just pressing the power button to shutdown and restart it again.  Then I switch back to connecting to WIFI and to my surprise my laptop works fine again it did not stucked up even once.  But after few days I'm thinking to use the network cable again because I really need faster downloading so I purchased another cable becasue I'm thinking maybe the cable I'm using is defective but the result is the same it still got stucked up.  I already asked our IT in my company but they can not give any solution to my problem.  So please help me on this immediately.

  • raven120461 Jan 21, 2009

yah it's still under warranty but i bought it far from my place and i bet it will take time for them to fix it that's why if there's a remedy that can be done immediately then it's what i preferred.

  • raven120461 Jan 21, 2009

knotbeerdan, are u sure about it?  What caused the stuck up is when i'm using the cable, may laptop is fine using wireless connection.  So is it the wireless device that is defective?  Just asking man and thanks.

  • raven120461 Jan 21, 2009

Give us a little more information so we can work with you. Connect back to your wired cable and do an ipconfig /all. Let us know what your IP address says and what your gateway address says. Also click on start>all programs>accessories>system tools>system informaton. Let us know the make and model of your wireless card it will say wireless 802.11b.g and your wired card. This will give us a starting point.

You can try changing the wireless device on your own but that would void the warranty

If you got this laptop in october then it should still be under warranty. I'm thinking that this is a hardware issue. This computer needs to be sent back to be repaired under warranty

There are so many things this could be. Have you tried disabling your wireless network adapter on the laptop while it is connected to the cable modem? Or you might want to think of getting a wireless router that you can hook up to your modem and you wouldn't need a cord at all. Try disabling the wireless adapter and let me know what happens

I have had problems myself with wifi and vista causing my laptop to restart I think it's due to a recent update, try using no security on your wifi connection and see if you get the same problem. On my own laptop I had to remove the wap key and use mac address filtering instead due to this problem. Please let me know the results.

Hey Trahan here: I thought you were up and cruisin the internet by now..ok here we go. What's happening is a running program is locking up causing you to have to reboot. So let's see if we can identify that program. Next time you lock up do this and send me the information: I don't know what operating system you using but this is instructions for Windows XP. If you using something else let me know and I'll give you different path:

Click on start>Control Panel>Administative Tools>Event Viewer>Application.
There is a list of all the programs that are running on your computer. If one of them is locking up, which causes you to have to reboot, it will be the last program that shows up, after you shut down and start back up again. It should be marked with a red x or something that says "stopped" or something to that affect. If we can find that program then we know what is causing it. In your problem did you say you using lan line now or still wireless? I don't need to know now, just let me know when you send me the program name. Good luck..

I think the only way to resolve your problem is to back everything you want off of the computer like emails, favorites, documents, etc. Buy yourself a disk cleaning software, I use "Disk Scrubber" by Iolio...completely wipe everything off your hard drive. Then load your operating sysem and files back onto it..that way you have a clean start. I have no more troubleshoorting tricks to give you. And if you had brought your computer to my shop and I did all of those troubleshoointing I would be tellin you the same thing. Wipe it clean and reload. Sometimes that's the only solution.

Thats what i have been tryin to figure out. Is your WIFI set to connect automatically? Even though this really should not matter the best idea i can get is that when the computer tries to connect to the wifi it runs the computer out of memory or something along those lines. I know this is probably one of those simple things i am way overthinking. I wonder (another doubtfull) but i wonder if you try to lower your security settings and see if that might help. I am going to try to get some of the other experts here to chime in on this one. Just hold on and i will try to get u squared away.

When you click on the wifi icon there is a tab somewhere that has a box that you check if you want it to connect automatically when the computer boots. For the security settings while you have internet explorer open click on tools on the menu bar. then go to internet options and then find security and try to lower the bar. If it is set at the lowest or turned off don't change anything. The other place you do have securities is in whatever anti-virus software you might have. Which if you don't I would recommend installing it. You can get that from symantec or we just switched to sophos. If you don't have anti-virus software installed try that first and have it scan your computer. That could be the culprit.

I think you need to download and run these two programs
    Malware bytes
    Spyware Terminator

They are both awesome programs and it is starting to sound more and more like you are having some sort of spyware problem. After this the next step is to remove the network connections and set them up from scratch again.

In your network places how many network connections show up?

Did you try running the programs i suggested?

huh thats funny i told you to do the same thing and then some..... and look at the rating i got. and the other two people that provided a lot less troubleshooting than i did. Thanks for the thought and glad you listened to someone after ignoring posts on this site.

How do i connect hp 1050v compaq laptop to wifi

Compaq Evo n1050v Notebook PC Overview

I strongly suggest visiting the above linked page and determining exactly what model in the 1050v series you have. As stated on the linked page, some models don't have a Wireless Network Interface Card (WNIC), just the ubiquitous 10BaseT 10/100 (Mbps) NIC using RJ-45 jacks and plain old CAT5 Ethernet cabling.

If you're having trouble determining whether or not your model is one that does have a WNIC, check the strip of plastic above the keyboard and the front side of the laptop's bottom section for a light indicating the status of your WiFi radio. Your laptop, if it has WiFi capabilities, will use an indicator light shaped like a vertical pole with a small ball on top emanating three waves outward to the left and three to the right.

If the radio is disabled for whatever reason, it will not light up. If the radio is on but you are not connected to a network, it will glow orange. After connecting to a network successfully, it will glow blue. At no point will this indicator light flash unless something is terribly wrong.

Assuming your specific model of laptop has WiFi connectivity, then to enable the hardware you'll need to download and install the requisite drivers (if you haven't already), and lastly you'll have to locate the physical sliding switch which controls the WNIC (on/off) and thumb it over to "on."

I bought a 7" Sylvania laptop at CVS. I use Clear

The only way you can connect this Sylvania SNET7526 to the internet is through an existing home network or a open network such as McDonalds, Panera Bread or maybe your local library. There is no way to use a modem as there is no way to add the network drivers to an embedded system. You must stay with what is already installed on your system as it resides in a read only memory chip.

I would advise that you return it as it seems as if you are a determined Lap top wireless modem user, rather than a cable type.

Hi trying to connect my dell laptop to pc

to connect a laptop to you PC you will need a broadband router(with min of 2 LAN slots) and connect both using the LAN network cables thru the router.
Then on both PC and laptop you need to create the local area network.
Start/Control Panel/Network Setup Wiz/next/next/No let me chose another...../next/other/2nd option This Computer connects...../Computer name...Give a name/next/MSHOME/next/1st option Turn On file and print..../next/Yes/Next/wait for a few min..../Last option...Just Finished the ....../Next/Re-start/
Do this on both PC and laptop
Now open My Computer icon/Clikc the up arrow button near the top the menu bar/
this will show you the My Network icon/click it and view all computers on the network
You need to do the above process on both the PC and laptop
once you can view the PC's shared folder in you laptop and Laptop's shared folder in you PC you are DONE.
just copy any files from your PC/Laptop to the shared folders on you laptop/PC and exchange files on both.
all the best

Thinkpad 760el how can I connect broadband preferably wired

You will need a LAN network card in your laptop, it may already have a LAN port connection on the laptop.
First you need to decide what type of broadband connection your require DSL (it uses your phone line) or a cable connection.
You need to signup to an Internet Service Provider in your area that can provide a DSL or cable connection. Select a broadband plan that suits your requirements, be aware that some ISP will charge additional fees for exceeding your monthly download limit.
The ISP may also include a DSL or cable modem with their broadband plan.
The ISP will supply a setup CD to install and setup your broadband connection.

Network cable wire too large to fit laptop connection

If your laptop is too old probably does not have a network card built in. In that case you need a PCMCIA network card and PCMCIA slot available in your computer.

You can get one here:

Try manually add the network. If the problems continue, I would turn the laptop in for repair/replacement (if it under warranty).
