Question about Yamaha Audio Players & Recorders

1 Answer

My HTR 5460 won't stay on

It first stopped getting any sound from all other equipment connected, phone, CD, etc, but the tuner worked fine, did not used for months after that and now when I turn it on in a second turns itself off. I looked inside but don't see anything or even smell. Anyone have ideas? All capacitors seem OK, visually at least.

Try pressing power while holding the 'fm/am' and 'input mode' buttons. This will tell you what part of the circuit is making it shut down. It should show something like I PROTECT, PS PROTECT, etc.

Thank you, I did and stays on, says "I ANALOG BIPASS", Sleep is flashing in the right corner, is that the problem? if that's the case, how do I cancel the sleep command? Thanks

  • Steve K Jan 10, 2013

turn it on normally, and let it turn itself off. Then do the button press procedure and see what it says. It should show some kind of protect statement.

Thank you! What I get, while still holding the buttons is although did it several times and the numbers change either 020, 021, 022, but not necessarily in that order, and then goes to . the "sleep" red flashing still there, and basically nothing responds to either remote or input changes.

I located the manual and reset to "factory set" with remote, I them turned the unit off and on again, this time it stay on and brings me back to original problem, I do have sound from Tuner but not from CD, Aux etc. Any ideas? Also when I change the imputs at some time it turns the unit off, has happened at random settings, but have nothing connected to those settings...

The letters PS were before PORT... although it's on now, the "sleep" has been removed after resetting, but no sound from aux et all. Thank you for your patience Steve K

  • Steve K Jan 10, 2013

If it's saying ps prot, there's a problem in the power supply. One of the voltages is out of tolerance. This will have to be repaired before the unit is functional again. These units have a history of bad +/-12v regulators

Thank you, anything I can test? Worth even try to find a service place? and do you think that could be the reason only the tuner gets sound?

  • Steve K Jan 10, 2013

Not sure about the tuner having sound only. Could be worth servicing. Most places should charge an upfront fee to troubleshoot it and give you a repair estimate. That fee is usually not too big.

SOURCE: Technics ST-X302L tuner - Unit not powering on

i have the same unit and a similar problem, after a fall of the tuner on the floor while i was cleaning my room, first times the st-x302l was powering fine but after some minuts it quit alone.. now (i dont know why) it remains on but if there is an interruption of electricity it dont turn on anymore, it turn on only by removing the metal chassis and moving random the electronics.. i think it has some electronic contact or circuit break.. i brought it to a specialist in electronics and he told me the reparation would be too expensive so i prefer to try fix it by myself.

SOURCE: my yamaha htr 6050

Make sure your audio output on your PS3 is configured properly. You have the ability to chose which port the audio is coming out of.
The 6050 does NOT process audio signals coming in on the HDMI port. The amp is weak, I had one. With the 6050 you will have to use the AV multi coming out of the PS3 and use the special cable that came with the PS3 to convert that signal to the RCA and connect that to the 6050.

SOURCE: turns on then off.

It probably needs a set of output transistors, 2 pre-amp transistors and a 5.6v zener diode. Possibly a resistor or two. I've fixed many of these. Definitely a job for a pro.

You're best bet would be to buy compressed air and blow out all dust and dirt that has made its way inside the receiver. If dust is clogging the fans it will overhead and shut itself off.

Hello
There ar two possibilites for thif fault, and both are related with its tuner circuit board. Either the tuner section do not get proper voltage to function, no tuning will be done or if the varactor diode that helps electronic tuning has got damaged. In both cases, no tunig will be done.

I have the Yamaha HTR-5940 and it has worked fine for years. Today turned on and there is no sound for the TV. Sound works fine for DVD, and radio. I have tried everything except toss it out the window....

did you connect the cables correctly most probably to get sounds out of a tv it should connected to the 3.5mm headphone jack.
you would need a Rca to 3.5mm cable for this

How do I connect a dvd player with surround sound?

This depends on how you have it hooked up. You're going to need a Tuner. A simple method is to connect only the Yellow RCA cable (or composite cables) to your T.V. Then connect Red and White RCA cables to the Tuner/Surround sound system you're using on which ever input you're comfortable with. I.E. CD/AUX/TAPE..etc. Change your tuner to that input, and you should get your surround sound through the speakers. Make sure you change the input on your T.V. to what ever video source you got the wires in. If your tuner allows you to hook up a video source to it, you can just hook it up to the tuner and run the DVD player off the tuner only. The first option helps avoid confusion if your tuner isn't set up for any other devices to play video through it.

I agree with this answer:try to connect the CD Player output to the working input on the Denon Amp( say tuner remove it temporarily).

try if it works, then you have a good CD player

if not check if there is volume available on CD player , turn it a little bit higher, using remote control

check if the CD is reading the disk

check also the connector you are using

check if there is a known working CD audio inside the player

if still having problems state the model of your CD player

hope this helps, thanks for using Fixya!

theres probably a problem with the right channel cable or plug that connects the tv to the reciever, or the tv is set to mono audio.
