Kenmore tumble action washer problem

Hello Tom -

As of late, our 4.5 year old Kenmore tumble action washer (model # 41744142400) has been misbehaving. It starts fine, but does not advance to the next cycle. A rather loud humming is heard when the cycle is "stuck."
If I turn the dial just one click the next cycle will begin. This happens with each rinse cycle and the spin cycle.
Any ideas?
Thank you so much!

It appears your timer has failed in this instance.

For replacement parts - head on over to PartSelect.com or RepairClinic.com and enter in your full model number for a full parts listing.
I recommend both sites because ...

FixYa has no affiliation with either site - I have been using and recommending them for years - trouble free.

PartSelect has a great schematic database for locating the part on your unit and great "testimonials" for each part that often times includes HOW-TO information.
RepairClinic has pictures of each part they sell and also a great how-to and troubleshooting for basic repairs.

If your unit has never been serviced - there should still be an original service manual enclosed in plastic taped to the inside of the shell.
In the service manual are Error codes, maintenance procedures, and troubleshooting steps you can follow.

Anything too complicated or beyond your scope should be handled by a professional.

If you think you want to tackle the repair - and have gotten stuck on a step - reply to your question and I will be glad to help you out.

Kenmore Tumble Action Washer won't go to spin cycle

im a repairman, lets reason this out.if washer wont spin because the tub is so warped that when it spins its so out of balance then ok new tub.or the tub welds are broken and some part is dragging and not letting it spin then ok new tub.or spin bearing has failed and ruined tub support shaft,ok new tub.but why else would you need a new tub for a no spin problem, not sure, and to answer your other question , can you fix the tub if any of the above problem exist.no you would have to replace tub.i hope that helps,God bless ,tom....ps if i have been helpful please remember to help me with my ratings, tom

Snaggs, If your model number begins with 417 it could be a couple of issues. Start with the drain pump. Remove the bottom panel and see if the pump is clogged with coins or debris. It will be on the right. Check the pump impeller. Have a bunch of towells handy as you will have a lot of water coming out at you. When you drop the bottom panel you will be able to see if the belt is on in back. If this does not clear up the problem, more than likley it will be in the motor control board. Catriver...post back.
