I do the same thing sometimes. i dont think you can have the same on both screens so what i do is extend my desktop on to the projector in display properties. do you know how to do that? that might be the default when you hook up something for a second monitor. what are you trying to do?

Hi. My Dell Latitude E6410 does not recognize a Epson Projector, model EMP-7800. How can I solve the problem?

Hi
you must tell the laptop to display out on the projector,
how to do that?! you must toggle the display path
Generally, there is button ( with Fn keys ) have dusplay screen sample on it, use it with Fn to toggle the display
Display have 3 modes:
  1. laptop screen
  2. outside LCD projector or monitor,
  3. or bith 1 + 2

you can press the keys 3 times ( at maximum ) to have the display on both laptop screen and projector

Good Luck

Need to connect my dell laptop to a large screen projector using a computer video interface for vga and compatible computers I have a delllatitude d610 the interface is an inline2080

I assume you know how to connect the VGA cable and which function key is used to activate the second display. You will have problems if the laptop display size is not supported by the projector. Many older projectors will not work with wide screen laptops.
when you connect the projector, Just press the presentation mode on your keyboard, Fn + (Presentation Key), Sometimes F5 or F8!

Then you will see your desktop on the projector screen.hope this helps

Differing size display when using Dell 3200mp LCD projector

Once your display of the projector is set( all connection to computers via cables is done), then all the display settings remain with the source i.e. the laptop.

You will need to set all your laptops to the correct display properties. This you can do by either going to presentation mode or on Window XP you can simply go on to your desktop and right click > go to properties>go to setting> press display 2 and set the screen resolution as per your projectors resolution and enjoy. ( for information: display1 is the resolution meant for your laptop)

Please do rate this solution and Thanks for usinf FixYa!

Laptop computer connected to projector.

When the projector displays the background image and the lcd displays the desktop as normal you can drag the open windows to the left or right and display them on the projector. it sounds like this laptop has an internal video card. If you right click on the desktop it might give you options to configure the display settings for the video card. Not sure how you will get to it if it does not show up on the right click menu. Probably through the start menu or in the control panel there should be somewhere to change the settings for the video card. This will no be under the display settings though.

But once you find your dual display options you will be able to change it to make both displays the same

Presentation mode is off...

I'm going to guess that you have a wide screen Dell laptop with a 16:10 aspect ratio and a default resolution of 1280X800. The wide screen is great BUT most presentation grade projectors do not have a native (pixel for pixel) 16:10 mode. Instead they still prefer a display input with a 4:3 aspect ratio like your old square CRT or standard definition TV. Why do they prefer a 4:3 input? Mainly because Powerpoint prefers to display a slideshow in a 4:3 mode. Because of this Dell, in their infinite wisdom, created the 'presentation mode' utility in an attempt to automatically convert the VGA output of your laptop from 16:10 to 4:3 on the fly. In my experience this is an annoyance at best and at worst can seriously impact the size and quality of the projected image.

The best thing you can do when you connect to a projector is ignore the presentation mode alert and manually set your laptop's resolution to 1024X768 for an XGA rated projector or 800X600 for an SVGA rated projector. This will cause your desktop to look stretched on your laptop but will give you by far the best projection image.
