Using a paperclip locate the small round hole on the front of the cd-rom drive. Using the end of the paperclip push the manual release button in the hole. That should release the cd for you. Sometimes if they are inserted quite right the cd came get bound inside the drive. After removel of the cd, I would repeatly check the function of the cd-rom drive door operation before inserting another cd. Drives are cheap and easy to replace. If you decide that your dirve is having problems, I would get a new one.

Thanks for using FixYa,

I hope that helps.

EnVivo Cassette Converter CD software manual disc is too small to fit into hard drive of my computer. I have a desk top computer

do you mean the CD is only 8 cm and not 12 cm? and you can't put it in your CD player on the desktop computer?
Perhaps you should try to goto the EnVivo support site and download the manual and software there>
Or perhaps you could turn the desktop computer 90 degrees for one time, so the disk can lay on the try and can be used still?

My desk top computers screen went black, can my data be save on the hard drive and how can i take it off

Not posting the model number of the Dell desktop computer, get's you generic information.

The model number can be found on the back of the computer, next to the Windows product key.

Moving on......

Suggest use an external enclosure.
Remove the harddrive from the computer, and install it in an external enclosure.

The external enclosure has a USB cable, and you just plug it into any available USB port, on a working computer.

Then go to My Computer, or Computer; depending on which Windows operating system the computer has; and double-click on the drive letter that corresponds with the external enclosure.

(WinXP: Start > My Computer
Win Visa / Win 7: Windows logo button > Computer )

Examples of drive letters;

C: Drive = Harddrive of the computer you are using

D: Drive = Separate partition on the harddrive for Restore files, or is for the optical drive (CD/DVD drive)

E: Drive = Optical drive generally, but may be the drive letter that corresponds to a Removable Device.
The external enclosure you plugged in, is a removable device.

None of the above is 'etched in stone', except the C:Drive
Things change from computer to computer, and the way you may have it set up.

Easy way to know?
Before plugging in external enclosure, open My Computer, or Computer.
Look at what each drive letter corresponds to.

Now when you plug the external enclosure in, you will see the change; and know which drive letter corresponds to the external enclosure you just plugged in.

Double-click on the name next to the drive letter, that corresponds to the external enclosure you plugged in.

Go into My Documents, or Documents.
Again, depends on which version of Windows you have.
Win XP = Start > My Documents
Win Vista / Win 7 = Windows logo button > Documents

Now open each folder, until you get the personal files you want to keep.
Photos, music, videos, documents you have created, or downloaded.

You cannot remove programs, or applications. Just your personal stuff.
(You can, but that is for a separate discussion)

Also open Downloads.
(WinXP = Click on Start > My Documents > DOUBLE-click on Downloads.

Win Vista / Win 7 = Click on the Windows logo button (Start), click on Documents, click on Downloads.

Harddrives are measured in Width.
2-1/2 inches across for a laptop harddrive. 2.5 inches.
3.5 inches for a desktop harddrive.

Don't know what Dell this is again, don't have the model number.

Cannot tell you if the harddrive is an IDE (PATA) unit, or a SATA unit.

So you will need either a 3.5 IDE (PATA) external enclosure,
OR,
a 3.5 SATA external enclosure.

There are external enclosures that are 3.5 and IDE/SATA, also.

Basic examples,

Easy way to identify what type technology is used, for the harddrive in your computer; IDE/PATA, or SATA;

Power cable for an IDE/PATA harddrive,

Power cable for a SATA harddrive,

Make sure your computer boots from the disc drive by going into the bios and assigning it as the first boot device. Then let it load and do a startup repair.

I cannot eject cd from my all in one Dell studio one 1919 desk top

Most CD drives have a small pinhole in the front face to manually release the drawer. Use a paperclip or similar item to insert in the hole, and push. This will manually release the drawer and cause it to try to open. Be careful as the CD may have become dislodged from the spindle mechanism and askew in the tray.

Hope that's helpful.

I have a Desk top Dell computer, but I am having problems with the modem, I can't get the disk drive door to open, computer works great

I don't know why the drawer not opening would give you modem problems.
If you need to open the CD drawer, you can go to "my computer" (just "computer in Win7), right click on the CD icon and choose "eject."
Or, using a large paper clip or similar object, insert it into the little hole on the front of the CD and push gently. It will release the drawer and start to open it. You can then pull it open.

My CD will not eject out of my Dell XPS One Desk Top PC. How do I get it out and how can I get this fix?

Look in front of the CD Drive, there should be a small pin-hole. Straighten out a paperclip and stick it into the pinhole on the drive, it will release the latch and open up.

Try updating windows to latest service pack and all patches. There are some updated CDRom drivers that may get updated to resolve your issue.

I am trying to replace the hard drive in emachine 500is. Now the computer will not recoginize the cd rom to read the windows xp set up disk.

Go into BIOS Setup, and in Boot Order, change the first boot device to CDROM.

How?
To go into BIOS Setup you start tapping either the DELete key, or the F2 key, ->Right After you see the eMachines logo. If you miss this window of opportunity, simple press the CTRL, ALT, and DELete keys, At The ->Same Time.
This will restart your computer. Try again.

If you try the DELete key, and this wasn't the proper key, then use the above, restart your computer, and press the F2 key -> As Soon As You See the eMachines logo.

In the BIOS Setup main menu, look across the top for Boot Options. You cannot use your mouse to navigate around in BIOS Setup, you have to use your keyboard. Press the Right Arrow key to highlight Boot Options, then press the Enter key.

Your BIOS Setup may be different for this model. You may have to go down to Advanced BIOS Settings, in the main menu, and highlight it. Use the Down Arrow key to highlight Advanced BIOS Settings, then press the Enter key.

In the Advanced BIOS Settings sub-menu, look down the list for ->Boot Options. Use the Down Arrow key, and highlight it, then press the Enter key.
In the Boot Options sub-menu, you will see a list of boot devices. Floppy Disk drive, CDROM, HDD, (HarDDrive, or really -> HarDDisk), and perhaps a fourth one.

Use the Down Arrow key and highlight ->CDROM. Look down at the bottom of this menu, and see what the Navigation keys are. It won't state -> Navigation Guide, but that's what it is. You want the -> Change Value, keys.
It may be +/-, or Page Up/Page Down. (Plus + key, or Minus - key)

Using the Change Value key, move CDROM to the top of the list. (You have to hold the Shift key down in order to use the + key)
You may have to highlight the device on top of CDROM, and change value of it, in order to get CDROM to come to the top. Keep moving the boot devices, until CDROM is at the top of the list.

After CDROM is at the top, press the Enter key.
Now press the F10 key to save the changes you made. Now press the y key, and then the Enter key.
If you do not press the F10 key, and then the y key, it will be like you have done Nothing at all!
You haven't saved changes.

You may also have the words -> YES, and NO listed, instead of the Y key. (It's shown as a capital Y for clarity. Press the y key. Do Not hold the shift key down, and press the y key)
You can either use the appropriate side arrow key to highlight -> Yes, or just press the y key.
Now press the Enter key. Your computer will restart.

Your computer will now look in your CDROM drive for a boot disk. (It can be a CD drive, CD burner drive, or DVD drive, or burner)

IF, you do not have the Windows XP disk in your optical drive, or IF you did not get it in your optical drive before the computer booted up, don't sweat it.
Just make sure the disk is in the drive, and then press the CTRL, ALT, and DELete keys,
AT THE SAME TIME. Your computer will restart.
(Not 'shouting')

I'm a little confused how to install this router I just bought. Model #wrt54g2. do I put the cd into my desk top which is already connected to the internet or do I install the cd in the new laptop I just...

Hi sheena -Is your desk top hooked up throgh the router? If not, plug your modem into the wan port on the router. The router should have come with a couple of short cables, most likely blue and yellow. Use the blue to connect your modem to your router. You can check the manual just to be sure. Use the ethernet cable that had been connecting your desk top to your modem, and plug into one of the wired ports on the router. I imagine you'll be using wireless for your laptop. Make sure that it is on. Put the cd in your desk top and run from there. Follow the directions. If you need more help just add a comment and I'll be glad to assist you further. If this solves your probleb PLEASE rate this as fixed. Remember. Need help? Just holler Sheena.
