Blender Dead as a Doornail

I was using my blender (Cuisinart SmartPower Duet). Turned it off and when I tried to turn it on again, nothing. I don't know what to do. Tried the food processor attachment, but the problem seems to be with the motor.
We were given this unit by our daughters for Christmas. We took it home and set it up and the motor does not work. I called Cusinart for help and they want me to pay shipping to send them their new, unusable product. When I e-mailed my complaint a rep called and offered to eliminate the return shipping fee, but still told me I'd have to pay to return the unit. I would advise anyone to beware of buying their products with this kind of support behind them. This is a new, factory shipped defective item and I'm not at all happy with company policy.
