Remington Pole Saw RPS2N1 takes what type of oil?

Amazingly I read the owner's manual online and there is no mention of what type oil to use. However, this is a chain saw, albeit and electric chain saw. Therefore it is reasonable to assume that you would use bar oil which you can purchase anyplace that sells chain saws. Just ask for chainsaw bar oil. If you want to clarify this call 1-800-858-8501.

Oil leaks out as fast as it goes in

You provide no model number. That forces me to make my best guess. I opted to use model number “104316” as described below:
Remington.com
http://shoppingcart.msservicecompany.com/Default.aspx
  • Type "YourModelNo" into the "Search for your unit by Model #:" window, then click search.
  • Click the YourModelNo - Remington Electric Chain Saw "View Model" link.
  • Click “View Owners Manual” or "View Illustrated Parts Diagram" link.
I opened the "YourModelNumber”parts list and found the oil tank pn ”079086-02.
I typed that into the “Search for your parts by Part #:” window and it said replaced with pn “108639-01. I input in the part number window and found; “Back Ordered Forever”. You might try an Internet search for "Remington 108639-01".
I searched for the oil cap and found 107512-01 $4.72.

Your Owners Manual is not very detailed, this excerpt is from a different model RemingtonPower saw.
FILLING OIL TANK
1. Remove oil cap.
2. Fill oil tank with SAE #30 motor oil. Note: For
temperatures below 30°F, use SAE #10 oil. For
temperatures above 75°F, use SAE #40 oil.
3. Replace oil cap at once. Tighten oil cap firmly for
good seal. This will avoid oil seepage from tank.
4. Wipe off excess oil.
Note: It is normal for oil to seep when saw is not in
use. Empty oil tank after each use to prevent seepage.

If you use a lighter weight oil it may contribute to this. If your oil cap has a leak to atmosphere that might also cause this. Try rubber banding a sandwich bag over the filler hole as a seal, better? Replace the cap. No better the tank is leaking.

The really bad news is RemingtonPower is no longer in production and eBay is the only source for some replacement parts, like this tank.

I am not affiliated with RemingtonPower and spent a fair amount of time providing this answer to you. I should not be punished because you are disappointed with results beyond my control. A good rating and perhaps a few kind words from you are my only payment for this service. Sorry
Lou

What type of oil is used in the remington 16" chain saw?

From page 9 of a M12510US (bar oil is SAE 30 with additives to help it adhere to the bar and chain):
FILLING OIL TANK
1. Remove oil cap.
2. Fill oil tank with SAE #30 motor oil. Note: For temperatures below 30°F, use SAE #10 oil. For temperatures above 75°F, use SAE #40 oil. 3. Replace oil cap at once. Tighten oil cap firmly for good seal. This will avoid oil seepage from tank.
4. Wipe off excess oil.
Note: It is normal for oil to seep when saw is not in use. Empty oil tank after each use to prevent seepage.

This is one of the most complete "Owners Manuals" Remington offers. If not your saw you can find your manual here:

  • Type "YourModelNo" into the "Model #:" window, then click search.
  • Click the YourModelNo - Remington Electric Chain Saw "View Model" link.

I have a remington electric pole saw. I need to fill with more oil. What type do I use?

the oil lubricates the chain & bar.you can buy bar oil where they sell chainsaws, but any5w-20 or 10w-30 is cheaper and just as good.use that 1/2 pint left over when you changed the lawnmower oil!
