Hp direcror shows only 2 icons

You might try this. Lay the paper you want to scan on the glass and press the physical buttom labeled scan. Wait for a min but on mine director will pop up on your computer screen. Its not a fix, but it'll let you scan what you need.

From Printers and Faxes window

1. Right click the printer icon for your HP 1200 PSC then select "Set Printer Offline".
2. Right click again the printer icon then select "Cancel All" print jobs.
3. Once it's cleared, right click the printer icon again and then "Set Printer Online".

Or, restart the computer and the printer.

just adjust the cable of the printer at the back of your desktop..

I had to redo my whole computer because of virus. when i reinstalled windows xp my hewlett-pachard psc 1210 will print. I get a message that says it is not installed and I have tried everything to get it to work. no disk i even install a driver but still wont work help please

HP Director software displays as an item on the task bar (the row of open software programs that appears at the bottom of the desktop screen).
3. Click HP Director on the task bar. The software opens and displays normally.
4. Repeat Steps 1 through 3 every time you use HP Director.
   NOTE: The HP Director window might appear larger than normal, but the software is functional.

The HP Director software that shipped with some HP products introduced between 2002 and 2004 may not be compatible with Internet Explorer 7. hp director icon wont respond

I've been fighting the same. Did some hunting on the HP and MS web sites. Found a "work around". Not what I wanted but at least I can scan. I think HP Director is gone for Vista users. :(

Scanning with Windows Photo Gallery
1. Click the Start ( ) icon.
2. Click All Programs .
3. Click Windows Photo Gallery .
4. Click File and then click Import From Scanner or Camera .
5. Click Import .
6. Click Scan .

Click Start - All programs - HP - HP Director/Solution center

Click Settings - Print settings - Printer settings

Click on the Colors. In Color Management select "Managed by Application". Click Apply and OK. Close HP Director/Solution center.
Try printing.
