MrScary66613 and ginko are correct.

teddy_squidg,

Replace the part they are telling you about if it is within your capabilities or purchase a new player. You can also opt to have a tech replace the part, but it may cost more than a new player.

Have a great day and good luck.

This issue has nothing to do with region settings or NTSC or PAL. If you have the dvd player on either NTSC or Pal the dvd will still play it will just be jumbled on the screen it is not the playing format it is the signal that is produced. This dvd player is saying cannot play disc.

This unit need a service tech unless you feel comfortable opening the device. and hoping for the best .

My reccomendation see how much it will cost at service shop if too much then replace the unit.

    sorry

If its not reading the disk after you cleaned the lens then it may be time for a new player...if you take it to a shop it will cost more than a new player to fix so your best bet is to spend that money and buy a new one

Hi there,

You must need to set the ntsc/pal options manually on your player.
Try to adjust and set this setting. And try to use ridata or tdk media or other compatible media which your model can play.

Hope this initial info, helps.

Option in one of it's Set Up
Menus to Change the Output to PAL , NTSC or Auto, try
Changing it and see if that Makes any Difference.

    Auto is
Usually the Best Option as the Player then Outputs the Correct Setting.

eventually as mentioned earlier this can be only on the REGION SETTING for the player.

If the unit is fully working an unit cannot read disks , even if motor is spinning, then the lens it is always the problem.

If you already cleaned the lens, then there is need to check the contacts to lens pickup, and the lens pickup must be replaced.

An easier operation is replacing the whole DVD drive, that usually is a stand alone unit inside your player.

If the unit does not read any DVD or CD, then it is rather unlikely , that this happens because of an outdated firmware.
Regarding regional settings, when it is regional settings you get the wrong region message displayed.

Check if the disks are spinning, if they are not , replace the belt, if they are spinning , then replace the lens pickup.

Have you tried updateing the internal software in the dvd player? it might solve the problem.

But the issue is most likely the drive itself, probably bad lens or faulty drive. The firmware update indeed might help but I suspect the drive is the issue. Hows warranty? out?

  • Ekse Jan 21, 2009

there is no firmware available from samsung at this time. Replace or service the drive.

My dvdv 6600 dvd player cannot played anymore

Hello,

If Your player used to play disc before but all of a sudden stopped playing disc, yet it powers on and try to read a disc and come up with a 'no disc' error message or loads and does not come up with any message, then it means there is a problem with the laser/lens of the player. If it does not power on at all, then it means the problem is from the power board which is inside the player.
For the no disc error message, the solution is for You to clean or replace the lens of the player.
To clean the lens, Please get a laser/lens cleaner disc and insert it into the player, that will clean it for You, but if You want to clean it manually, please follow the steps below: You will be needing a cotton bud,a cup, a screwdriver, and a glove.
  1. Turn off the player,
  2. Unplug it from the power source and wear Your glove,
  3. Unscrew the player and keep the screws in the cup in order for it not to be missing,
  4. Then You slide the cover open,
  5. Unscrew the plastic cover that holds the disc in place for the lens/laser to read it,
  6. You will have direct access to the laser/lens,
  7. Use the cotton bud to carefully clean the laser/lens which is the crystal like object held in some casing,
  8. Screw back the disc support plastic that holds the disc,
  9. Then You test it with a DVD before screwing it back together.
If that does not solve the problem, then it means You have to replace the lens, to do that, please follow the steps above to step 6, then follow the rest of the instruction below:
  1. Disconnect the flexi ribbon that connects the lens to the main board,
  2. Carefully remove the laser from where it is connected to,
  3. Replace it with a new one,
  4. Reverse the process to reassemble the player back together,
  5. Then You plug it to a power supply and test it with a disc.
Hope this helped. Thank You for using FixYa!!!

1 Answer

Won't play dvd

Hello,
If your player wont play dvd, then it means there is a problem somewhere inside the unit. Most likely the lens is weak or dirty. First try to use a lens cleaner for the player to see if it will play any disc, if it does play the dvd, then it means the lens was just dirty and needed to be cleaned.
You can also try to clean your lens, by taking the player apart and using a cotton bud to clean it up. To take the player apart, you need to get a star screwdriver, then you unplug the player, then you unscrew the screws around it, slide off the back cover, then you unscrew the hook that is above the lens that covers holds the disc in place, then you use a cotton bud to carefully clean the lens. Before you reassemble the player just screw the disc holder that is above the lens back and plug it, then try to play a disc, if it does not play a disc still, then it means the lens is weak and need to be replaced.
To replace the lens, just take out the disc tray, disconnect the flexi ribbon that connects the lens to the main board, then you disconnect the lens itself, and replace it with a new one. then you reassemble the player back together.
This time, it will play your dvd discs.
Hope this helped. Take care and good luck

I get a no disc error and so far blowing air in it has not helped

Hi,
It sounds optical laser lens is dirty and need cleaning.
Put lens cleaning disc in player and press play, disc will spin and might clean lens to solve the issue.
If that does not fix the problem, unplug player from wall socket, take off top cover and clean lens with good quality cotton bud gently and then check does it play disc. If problem still exist then optical lens got defective and need to be replaced. Local tv repair shop will replace it but replacement would cost you much.
Hope these info will help you.
Thanks.
