Mitsubishi ws-55511 Sound & Cable picture turns on and off
DO A HARD RESET: Unplug the power cord for 4 hours. This will discharge
all the voltages on the internal eproms. When you power it back up the
factory defaults will automatically replace the eprom data. This will
correct any corrupted codes.
Of course, this may not be the problem, but could be. So this is a first line check.
WHACKING TEST: Many times these sort of mysterious conditions are a
result of loose wiring or cold solder joints. About half of the
strange complaints I get fall into this category. While the set is on
and while you are trying to address the OSD, bang on the cabinet in
several places with your hand or fist. This will jar the set hard
enough to restore the faulty internal connection that may have been the
If nothing pops up by now, it is most likely the controller IC and/or
screen graphics driver is defective and needs replaced. This is not
related to the picture or video that comes from the program, they are
really quite separate.
The cost of this repair could be quite high because it will require a
tech to do some clever analysis in order to find out exactly which
circuit is the offending one.
I don't think you will find this kind of problem written up in any of
the manuals or service books. It is quite strange and really, if a
tech is needed, well require one who is a cut above the ordnary one:
Someone who really knows how to troubleshoot and analyse and think
about what is going on inside. Most Mitsubishi techs are "phone
jockeys" the merely call an 800 number and someone tells them which
board to replace. They replace until the repair is made and they don't
really know what is going on inside - but you get a bill for $400 or
