Door alignment on Amana bottom-freezer refrigerator

The top of the freezer door on my model BB120TPE is rubbing on the hinge bracket enough to create metal shavings. How can I adjust the door alignment to prevent this? Thanks in advance. Don in OH.

SOURCE: Refrigerator top freezer door slightly rubs to

I think I can help. Usuly the doors have been swapped around in this case. look closely at the freezer door on hinge side. there should be a small metal piece that covers the hinge to prevent anything from jamming hinge. this shield also serves as a spacer. this is what sets the door at the correct height. if the piece is missing you can have your local appliance dealer order one for you. it only takes a few minutes ts to install. you will need to remove the freezer door to do this. Hope this helps and good luck.

SOURCE: i have a frigidaire refrigerator with top freezer.

Good day,
If you need to lift the main door, first remove all product from both doors. Shut off the machine. Too much stress on the compressor running with no doors.
Remove top cabinet bracket for the freezer door and lift freezer door off.
Remove center bracket, and lift main door off. Keep track of all shims and spacers.
You wil need additional spacers between the bottom bracket and the main door.
However, sometimes the door pin opening on the bottom of the main door has deteriorated and cannot be repaired. Check visually as to it's condition.
If it is beyond repair, then one solution is to reverse the doors to make use of the other side of the main door. Parts may be necessary from your local appliance parts house.

Check with your owners manual, that will show you how to re-align the doors. Or, worse case scenario, the internal rail is bent and needs to be replaced. Do a visual check on that.

How to Reverse Your Refrigerator Door (Most units)

1. Remove the toe grille.
2. Remove top hinge cover if available. Trace around the hinge with a soft lead pencil. This makes the re-installation easier. Remove top hinge and lift door off the center hinge pin, and set the door aside.
3. Unscrew the center hinge pin using an adjustable wrench and save for reassembly. Ensure that the plastic washer stays on hinge pin.
4. Lift the refrigerator door off of the bottom hinge and set aside.
5. Remove center hinge and shim by removing inside screw and loosening two outside screws enough to allow hinge and shim to slide out. Tighten screws.
6. Loosen two outside screws on opposite side of refrigerator, remove inside screw and install center hinge.
7. Remove two screws on bottom hinge with 3/8" socket wrench.
8. Install bottom hinge on opposite side with the two screws removed from Step 7.
9. Unscrew the bottom hinge pin using adjustable wrench. Move hinge pin to other hold in hinge and tighten with adjustable wrench.
10. Reverse door handles.
11. Move freezer and refrigerator door stops to opposite side. Before starting screws, use an awl to puncture the foam.
12. Position refrigerator door onto bottom hinge pin and screw center hinge pin through center hinge into the top of the door. Close refrigerator door to help align hinge hole.
13. Tighten center hinge pin with adjustable wrench.
14. Remove cabinet and hinge hold plugs and move to opposite side.
15. Lower freezer door onto center hinge pin (if you have a separate freezer door).
16. Close freezer door. Have an assistant lift up on opposite side of the door while tightening screws to install top hinge.
17. Flip top grille and reinstall.
18. Plug in electrical power cord and turn refrigerator temperature control to center position. Adjust setting as needed.

Hinge holding large bottom door has come off and door came off

Good day,
You will have to remove the freezer door first. Save all bushings and spacers as you go along.
Remove the top hinge first, then lift the freezer door off.
Next remove the center hinge.
You will need to determine what happened to the bottom hinge.
It is usually bolted on with either 2 or 3 bolts. As well it has a pin inserted into it that points up.
After the bottom bracket is bolted into place properly, with the pin sticking up, you place the main door on the pin,and close the door.
The next step is installing the center pin, which is held in with screws as well. Make sure the door is aligned, then....
re-install the freezer door.

I have a frigidaire refrigerator with top freezer. model frt21nfrd2. About 12 years old. With a light inside you can see light in the top right of the refrigerator door. Seems to seal good every where...

remove freezer door. now remove hinge on top of bottom door. lift bottom door off. now place a washer on bottom hinge and re install everything. this should solve your problem.

Refridgerator door sags

Its a two person job. One person has to looses up the two hidges holding the door just slightly while the other person holds the door in place. Once in place tighten the screw/bolts for the hidges back up and check. If not aligned, redo it again until it is aligned and seals properly..
Good Luck!

Side by side doors uneven at top

Hi Carol,

Interestingly enough, I answered a similar question just the other day. Maybe there's an outbreak of lazy factory technicians who "forget" to tighten the hinge brackets? Hmmmm. Makes on wonder...

Anyway, it's easy... The door alignment adjustment is done at the top hinge. Pull up a step-stool, then remove the hinge cover. Under there you'll see three screws, I think they're 5/16". Loosen these (since your door has dropped, they're probably already loose), then lift up on the door handle to align it with the other door... while keeping the door aligned, tighten the hinge screws (and put alot of torque on 'em to keep 'em from loosening in the future). Now just replace the hinge cover and your done!

(pssst!... don't forget to rate me, will ya? C'mon, throw me some love.)

Amana ARB2117BW - Bottom Freezer Door Won't Stay Sealed

This problem was posted in the wrong section. My model didn't have it's own, so its in ABB1927DE Bottom Freezer Refrigerator - perhaps you could create a section for it.

As it turns out, I looked more closely at the baskets inside. We had noticed that if the top basket was slid all the way forward when we closed the door that it would close better. So I looked to see if they or the slides were out of alignment. They seemed ok, but then I saw that the way the bottom basket was hanging didn't seem right - it was not quite nestled into it's retainer slot. I took the baskets out and turned the bottom one around. It fit perfectly into it's retainer slot. I then replaced the top one (it was already in correctly) and closed the door. It sealed correctly the first time. I tested it several times after that and it sealed tightly. Closing the top door did not make it unseal as it had done before.

Freezer door rubbing

take the freezer door off and put a washer or two on the bottom hinge. sometimes there are extra plastic washers on the top hinge that you can move to the bottom to lift it up.
also check if the hinge is bent or loose, as this may cause the problem.
