HP Pavilion dv6000 with Vista. Top ''letter'' keys on keyboard not typing. Is this a Vista problem?
I think its likely to be a hardware problem but check that your keyboard settings are correct for your country. Look in the control panel and then Keyboard settings.
Does the tab key work?

I think its a hardware problem, if you're comfortable taking the notebook apart, check the cable connecting the keyboard to the main PCB. It may be a loose connection there but its more likely to be a fault in the keyboard unit.
You should be able to find a replacement keyboard on sites like ebay.

Yes, the tab keys work. All keys work except for the q,w,e,r,u,i,o,p. I tested this with the wordprocessor.
