Question about Sony Playstation 3 (PS3) Console

2 Answers

The backup utility does not seem to work properly. I have a 40Gig drive and the backup function works as normal, but when I go to restore it says no backup data. I checked on my PC and there are five files in the backup folder (using a usb 16G stick for backup). I know the files are there, it writes to the memory stick just fine, the memory stick shows up when I plug it in but says there is no backup data. This happens right from the backup and then restore menu, no reset of the ps3 is required.

I should add that it seems the files the backup utility put onto the thumbdrive are larger than 4GB. At least one file is anyway.

In my case the problem was that the USB device did not re-mount after the PS3 restarted.

Try starting the backup restore process, removing the USB device sometime after the PS3 starts formatting, then re-attaching it once the PS3 finishes restarting. Wait for a while to allow the device to mount before you press the PS button.

Tried a different usb stick and for some reason the PS3 wrote the files in a way that it could understand itself if that makes sense. I mean the folder with the backup files was always there but for some reason the PS3 could not recognize its own folder. Trying to do this on a different memory stick allowed that to work properly for some reason.
PS3 does not support all usb sticks for some reason??

Disconnect the external firewire drive. Start the Disk Utility app in the Utilities folder inside your applications folder. With the Disk Utility window open, connect the external drive and power it on. It should appear in the left column. If not, your drive has probably failed and may have to be replaced.

If the drive appears, select it, click First Aid, then Repair Disk. Wait for this testing and repair to complete. Any problems should be resolved. If the display indicates irreparable disk problems, you may be able to use the Erase function to reformat the disk - but you will lose all the data on it. If repair seems to work, select the drive in the left column and click Mount in the toolbar. From the desktop, open the drive and see if data appears to be accessible. If so, close Disk Utility, restart your Mac and see if the external drive seems to work (repairs can cause some loss of data, but generally you won't be aware of the loss).

If you don't do so now, you should set up a backup of anything you don't want to lose (and we recognize you might be using the external drive for Time Machine). Disks crash and die. You should have a good backup when they do. Time Machine is your friend. Use it.

You will loose all data you have put on the computer. When you turn it on right at the beginning there is a black screen and there are a few f key options.
They will flash up with the option when you turned it on, before windows kicks in. Take a look at the user manual to find out for sure.
Press the correct f key before windows starts up, then go through the menus in setup (it will look all crappy and dos like) and find restore factory settings (or something like that) and click yes.
It's a great feature, and will completely kill any virus or **** problems you have had and couldn't get rid of.
Hope this helps. I would appreciate your feed back as I do this for fun not pay.

I used the backup now ez to take all my photos, etc off my desktop prior to upgrading from vista to windows 7 and now I cannot get it to restore back to my desktop. HELP!!!

This might be one of those programs that must be installed in order to work. I would imagine that you must install the program and have it do a restore.
Some programs keep a record of the backup on the hard drive. When you upgraded, the record might have been destroyed. If this is true, your backup software will have a utility to rebuild the index of the backup so it will work.

I have a toshiba A135 Laptop and the cd/dvd drive has stopped working. if I boot from my toshiba system recovery disk via the cd/DVD drive.. How will I know if the drive can be restored to normal...

if you are able to boot from the recovery media then you can justify reimaging the system as it would seem that it is a software issue. backup your files beforehand and you should have no problem.

RE: hp 510n need to reset to new settings

You have to use the HP Backup and Restore utilities. There are two ways to access this - either from within the operating system go to Start, All Programs, HP Backup and Restore and run the wizard which will guide you through the process.

If your operating system is not functioning, you can try repeatedly tapping the F11 key as soon as the system boots up to go into the HP Backup and Restore utilities on the recovery partition.

If neither one of those options is available, perhaps because the partition was removed or is corrupted or the hard drive was replaced, you will need to use the system restore CDs that came with the system. If you did not receive system restore CDs with the system, you were expected to make a set using the HP Backup and Restore utility when you first set up your computer. These CD's are available if you do not have them from HP - you will have to call 1-800-HPINVENT to get the restore CD kit.

System Restore...

Did you set a restore point lately. You do need to do that occasionally

(for example after removing a virus)

Maybe your restore point is not valid anymore

you can do Your first port of call for System Restore problems should be the System

Restore Troubleshooter, which you'll find here. However, it's also possible

that one of your Restore points has become corrupt, in which case you'll
need to disable System Restore. This will delete all existing Restore points

and then re-enable it. To do so, right-click My Computer on the Start menu

or desktop and choose Properties -> System Restore tab. Tick the 'Turn off

System Restore on all drives' and click Apply - you'll be told that all

existing Restore points will be deleted, so click Yes, at which point the

Restore points will be removed. Now remove the tick and click Apply again to

re-enable it.

You can now test that System Restore is working properly by creating a new

Restore Point and then immediately attempting to restore your computer to

that point in time. Hopefully, now you'll be successful
