Upgrading from Quickbooks Pro 2003 to Quickbooks 2009

Am I going to have a problem upgrading to 2009 from 2003?

Can I just install Quickbooks 2009 and then open my prior quickbooks 2003 company file???

I would not open up the company file in 2009. Open your 2003 Quickbooks, make a backup and then restore the back up in 2009. If you do run into problems you might want to upgrade into 2006 and then to 2009. (you will need to find someone who can do this for you if you don't have a 2006 version. I can help you with that if you need it

You'll need a trial copy of QB 2007 to convert QB 2003 company file to QB 20007 format, then use QB 2009 to convert it to QB 2009 format. QB 2009 can only open QB 2008 or newer company data files. You can find QuickBooks Accountant 2007 Trial Edition at download.com

SOURCE: QuickBooks has experienced an error on startup

Step one is run scandisk. If you have a cross linked or corrupted file it will sort that out automactically. Step 2 is to google "where is the quickbooks repair feature".....odds are someone has used it before. Step 3.....save your Quickbooks database (in at least two places) and delete and reinstall Quickbooks if all else fails.

SOURCE: Quickbooks Pro 2008 Payroll problem

Same thing here when attempting to "send payroll data", though mine's with pro 2009. I found this KB item which indicated that I should update:

http://payroll.intuit.com/support/kb/kbitem/1009052.html

I followed the update instructions here:

http://support.quickbooks.intuit.com/support/productupdates.aspx

Even though my update status was "nothing new" for each category, I hit the "Update Now" button anyway (it was enabled, why not?). It went through the motions of updating (even though there was nothing to update). When it finished, I closed and re-opened QB, then I was able to send the payroll data. This software is far from the gold standard I thought it was going to be.

Tip

Use QuickBooks Pro 2002 on Windows 7, 8 & 8.1

This will only work if you still have your CD & Activation Code + a copy of your latest Back-up:
1. Install CD & enter Activation Code, then pretend that you have faxed the info.
2. Open a new Account, with similar name to your original & roughly enter required details.
3. Once completed, open the new Account & go to File >Restore. Chose your last Back-up date & you will have all your Account records back again.
This has worked for me through Windows 7, 8 & 8.1. I was pleased to see that by upgrading to Windows 8.1, my QuickBooks program still works well.

Quick books pro 2008 is not there after upgrading windows vista to ultimate

Did the icon disappear from the desktop?
Did you look in Start > All programs to see if what there? Did you look in C:\Program Files\Intuit\QuickenBooks 2008 to see if the program is there?

I've upgraded my QP Pro Contractor 2006 to my new computer Vista 64. I do not seem to be able to upload/restore companies from 06 to 09, it just will not take the data.

2006 was not designed for operating in Vista. If the data files are not upgrading to Version 2009, it usually indicates data damage in the file. It will probably need to be rebuilt in 2006, then updated.

Reinstalling 2002 pro

Sorry to tell you that you will need to upgrade. Quickbooks is only compatable with Vista in 2008 and up. Quckbooks is not doing anything to resolve older issues.
